Could this happen on S.A one day?

as the site grows could there be a situation where S.A bring out say, a house tutorial and release it with vids for all the top daw’s,

ableton, cubase, reason, logic, pro tools and then we just pick which one we want to watch?

I personally imo don’t see the point.

All the principles work the same no matter what DAW you’re using. For instance I’m following a tutorial that is showing everything on Logic. I’m having no problem applying the same principles to Live 8.

thats because you’ve had lessons on live 8. would you be able to do it in pro tools?

yeah should be reasonably easy

No because i don’t know pro tools. But that isn’t the point i’m making. If you know how to use your DAW then you won’t have an issue applying the techniques.

If you don’t know how to use your DAW then fair enough, but that’s where a basic/intermediate tutorail on that DAW of choice would help. Doing like 5+ of the same tutorial every time a new ‘htsl’ came out for different DAWs everytime would just be time consuming and pointless.

I do believe though a good mixture of different platforms to be used in order to be fair to all, as well as helping those that arn’t very good with their DAW of choice improve, but not the same tutorial x ‘insert amount of different DAWs here’.

That’s the poInt I’m making. I feel confident in ableton but don’t know how to achieve the same results in cubase, not everyone is as advanced as you or I. just an idea to keep the masses happy

personally i think the tutorials would be best done in what ever DAW the tutor feels more comfortable with.

for instance i could quite easily make the same track in Reason, cubase, ableton or logic but the better results would come from logic or ableton because i am much happier using those two compared to the other ones.

i think also that SA would do well covering thing’s like garage band, Fl studio, Reason, Sequel because these are very popular and very cheap.

I wouldn’t say i was advanced AT ALL, you dont need to be, all DAWs pretty much work the same, they’ve all got their own internal plug ins which do pretty much the same as other DAWs internal plug ins. And any external ones, ie: Sylenth can be used on all DAWs anyways.

Anyways an example:

tutor says “bring up Logics EQ on ‘insert name here’ channel and do a high pass filter to 150hz”

I’d bring up abletons EQ and do the same thing.

So really what i’m trying to say, it makes no difference to me what DAW the tutor uses, and it shouldn’t to anyone else either.

However, for the purpose of anyone not that comfortable in using their own DAW of choice, a mixture of tutorials with different DAWs is fair to all.

Ie:

month 1, htsl gabber techno jazz in Cubase

month 2, htsl jungle piano in Logic

month 3, htsl clown classic in Ableton

Erm ok. I don’t use this site to learn how to apply a high pass filter! I use it to learn deeper production techniques and improve work flow. Would you beh appy if every tutorial was made in dance ejay? Then apply those techniques to another daw?!?

I was using it as an example ???

i do think they should do more logic and more cubase but i don’t think the tutorials should be repeated. although there is a work around with this sort of thing.

for instance we could have say Progressive House with 3 or 4 artist’s styles covered in cubase logic and live that way the same Genre would be cover only slightly different in each DAW.

wtf is dance ejay

I will end this argument right now.

Step 1: Watch the first tutorial covering the basics of Ableton, Cubase, or whatever DAW you fancy.

Step 2: Use the knowledge and basics you learned there and do a magical thing called PRACTICE… woahhhhhh!

Step 3: Use the knowledge gained from the videos AND practice to convert your knowledge. For instance… The reverb in Cubase would be similar to what feature in Ableton. Is it…

A ) Delay

B ) High Pass Filter

C ) Reverb

D ) Time Stretching or

E ) Kick Boxing

If you guessed Kick Boxing… Stop making music.

Its reverb… duh.

The point is, what you learn in one DAW can be used in just about any DAW. Its just how you do it thats different. So the threshold is a slider in Ableton and a knob in Cubase. WHOOPTY DOOOOOO! So learn your DAW and no mater what DAW is used in a tutorial, you should be able to figure it out.

Seacrest, OUT!

Ha ha it’s where it all began!

Ok I’ll quit the argument as it seems a crap idea.

Shocking track!

lol i know, but there are some really good producers out there that claim the learned most of their arrangement skills using one of these programs. the one program that’s been mentioned more than anything else i’ve read is Music 2000 for the playstation. i know that there are gonna be a few that say this for a joke, however having played on the playstation version as a young man i could believe this because arrangement is basically the only thing you can do on it lol

LMFAO Howie!!

Thanks…glad to make ya laugh!
