Creating breaks basslines

I have no ability to play an instrument or read music.

I want to move away from using bassline samples and program my own.

Any tips for me, not the sound design but just the midi programming for my breaks tracks?

I want to make sure different elements like bass and leads sound right corectly, what’s your tips?

Cheers

not really ever produced breaks before but i would start with your beat playing and just draw one or two notes into the piano roll, move them about left to right until you get something that moves nicely with the beat, add layers and build a solid groove.

Cheers

so just go by ear and not stress over knowing how to play? i do have midi controllers so I can Jam stuff out, just always think I am missing out by having no playing skills.

i have no idea how to play and no idea which scale chords or keys i should be playing but with a little help from ableton i can still come up with riffs

I think this might be a good tutorial for SA to do. You know programming midi for bass lines generally. Most of the styles we produce on here the bassline is a crucial element.

I watched a vid the other day of a guy recreating the bass motif for a Booka Shade track, Body Language I think. Apart from being helpful to see the manipulation of Operator it gave me new info on what the bass line actually looks like. Essentially the motif is a rising set of four long notes with short stabs, within the scale, above the longer notes. Not something I would have thought of doing by myself.

So, anyone else wants this kind of tutorial?

Me!

I really want a tutorial or quick tip video for this! Maybe a quick tips series! A short video for each like House, Breaks, DnB etc?

j aim dude i know its an *** pain but help ?
