Are the clubs in Ireland still only open until 3am, even now? That’s shocking!
In response to the original question - yes, the scene is very healthy in the UK. I live in London, and the amount of nights going on every week is crazy now. There is often about 70 nights that are all playing pretty decent music, with usually 4 or 5 ‘main’ nights that have at least 2 or 3 big name DJ’s on the bill.br
br
But having said that, personally i don’t think the London scene is as good as alot of people hype it up to be.br
br
I don’t think we have the overall diversity here in London that we should have. For example, there are not enough small, very underground techno nights. I think a major problem is that it is now so expensive to own and run a club in London because of property prices, that only bigger venues that have to be run more commercially are now financially viable.br
br
So for someone like me, who likes smaller, more underground nights - London’s not the best place!
Go up north David,br
br
Thats were it began in England.
Yeah good point. I have actually been thinking of venturing out of London to other cities to try and get my kicks from nights playing some of the harder styles in decent, smaller venues.br
br
Might be the solution.
I live in the UK and have been listening to ‘EDM’ (hate that term) for 20 years, from early rave, DB, Break Beat, Prog House, Trance, Techno, I like a bit of everything.br
br
I don’t think the London scene is as good as it was, a lot of the best venues like The Cross, Bagleys, The End, Turnmills, have all closed, but there’s still some decent stuff going on.br
br
Still like venturing up north every so often, Passion, Godskitchen Cream used to be regular haunts.br
br
Of course Ibiza is still good, although it’s turning into a bit of a rich mans play ground like Vegas.br
br
Mind you, Ibiza has always been very expensive!br
br
I really need to go to Berlin as soon as possible to check that out.br
br
I have a feeling that i’d much prefer that to Ibiza these days, as i prefer the underground and like the harder styles of dance music, and i really resent playing more than about £3 for a bottle of water!!!
Yeah it’s always be expensive but now there’s so much VIP, minimum spend crap going on, more of Pacha is VIP than dance floor nowadays. Not that I ever really liked Pacha anyway.br
br
I can thoroughly recommend Berlin, excellent city for clubbing, it’s still got that underground vibe about it, especially Watergate, Weekend is also good but Watergate is amazing, listening to your tunes David, I reckon you’d get on well with both.
Yeah you’re right mate - i’ve just promised myself that i have to make sure i go to Berlin within the next 6 months at the most now!br
br
Like you said, i am sure i would love it so much as it’s my kind of dance music - bring on the techno!br
br
I’m hearing a bit about the possible emergence of Croatia as a new clubbing destination - anyone been?
I’ve been to Croatia, but not on a clubbing trip unfortunately. I got the feeling Rijeka had a few decent clubs in it though, never went to Zagreb, I assume that’s where it’s going on.br
br
Oh I forgot to mention Columbiahalle in Berlin, went to see Sasha and Van Dyk there a few times, that place is incredible. Also Casino was something else, but they knocked that down around 2003 unfortunately.
