Deep House Tips?

Hey i have slightly turned into producing deep house now but i still cant grasp it! shoudl the drums be thick and punchy? and if not how do you know if they sound good not just low quality? and through sound design how would you go about that? and arrangement because its very repetitive, would you make a change every 8 bars?

this is my latest deep house… i still stink it mixes with my old progressive habbits though :S i dont know if i got the arrangemnts right :S

Deep House is a broad style . i would say that just follow your progresive side of producing. and maybe you will make Deep House tracks like Jhon Silva.

just keep practicing and listen alot of new Deep House tracks

not bad advice at all mate thanks

If you listen to a few deep house tracks, how would you describe the kick they’ve used? Just pick a kick that sounds good to your general idea. You can always change the kick.

Besides that, I think in general the distortion on the kick is nihil in deep house. Often clean kicks with a bit less high end/snap to it.

Deep DH kicks - I believe - have either no attack, or the top EQ shaved off…

and then theres the other sort that has a hat/live kick layered on top.

There is a deep house tut on this forum… Also look for “deep house tutorial” in youtube. You’ll find lots of little hints there. Keep in mind deep house has a more “live” feel to it. Try using randomization on your drums, but don’t over do it. Also deep house uses a lot of rhodes, pianos and other acoustic elements. Look around for some sample packs that are geared toward deep house. Look up these companies; Loopmasters, Sounds to Sample, Sample Magic and Zenhiser. They have lots of great drum shots, loops and synth hits. Good luck!!
