Delay Times

Just curious to see what everyone else is using.

When it come to adding delay to crashes, risers and or any other transition FX what delay times do you guys like to use?

Straight 1/4, 1/8 or maybe some triplets or dotted?

I’m desperate at eh… Delays :hehe:

Seriously… always a bit of trial & error. But if it sounds good I’m not sure why. I need to spend a bit of time on it really tbh.

Have got some nice results of using 2 different delay times. As in a delay after a delay… using 2 delays.

Theres a cheapo one in Logic - The Echo… Stick 2 on a channel & Mess around with different delay times. Its v.simple, so I suppose you could see what works pretty fast.

I should take my own advice :pinch:

when i use delays i try not to use the Sync option. using 2 or 3 different Delays without syncing feels more Loose and Organic IMO .

I spent nearly £500 on a Moogerfooger analog delay and I’m rubbish with it.

Sorry Scott - But I think a Woman would be the best help! LOL

I recently bought Rick Snomans  Dance Music Manual and in the appendix it has a useful chart for tempo delay’s. I got a good price for it on Amazon.com. Amazing book for all levels of producers.

Yes it is a good read and refernce book

Saw that theres a new version out alright…

Not gonna buy it again or anything, but I would love to see it just to check whether theres anything new & mindblowing in it.

I’d love to see a book full of Techniques for each bit of FX… whether as a part of the overall sound or as a feature of the sound itself.

Also including Sound design - Synths - Basses / Stabs / Pads - With lots of examples of variation on each. Theres just nothing out there. Where is all this knowledge stored?

Well - Apart from SA! :hehe:

Sure its experience - but the books never seem to go far enough.

Would love to see a Mini Tut on each of these: Basses / Stabs / Pads / Risers / FX and in each, get walkthroughs on how to make 5 different Basse, 5 different Stabs  etc…

Know bits have been covered already - but I still spend far too long on trying to make original sounds.

ICN - have you got
