Dirty Secretz Reverb

Hi All,br
Just been watching the progressive tech house 2014 by Dirty Secretz and i was wondering why the reverb for the drums was dropped directly on the channel. All the other videos i have seen the reverb for the drums has been on a return track. What’s the difference? I know the reverb itself has a dry and wet control so surely dropping that on the channel and using the dry wet would be similar to having it on a return and feeding the signal into it. Any help or explanations appreciated.br

one reason to use a reverb on an insert is if you want to compress the reverb along with the drums.

It’s all about the kind of effect you’re looking for with the reverb and what works best for you. br

Generally how I work is if I’m looking for the reverb that’s going to act as a filler between bars then I’ll use it on a return, for example if I was creating a breakdown where there reverb was building up and I wanted the reverb to spill over in the beats when they come back in. It can do a great job as a fill in that case and glues the parts together. br

On the other hand, if I’m not planning on automating it I’ll probably just put it straight on a channel as I’ll most probably want a different reverb type/length/style on each element. I know the academically-trained sound engineers would say that having just a single reverb and running multiple sources to it creates the same room for all the sounds to be in but I like individual control over each channel and to be completely honest, its just the way I’ve always done it.br

Each method has its use and there’s no bad way to do it, it’s just whatever works in the case you use it on

Brilliant Guys, that makes sense. I suppose like you say its whatever works for you. I have noticed that everybody has their own way of doing things and sometimes it may be different than other but just work. Great tutorial by the way. Thanks for your help.
