Do not know how to install vst instruments on mac

i useto use windows so now being on mac im really confused i download vst instruments but there not supported by abelton and wont even open up on there own

you need to download MAC versions of your VST’s

Just make sure you download a MAC plugin, and if you are on an intel MAC, make sure it is a Universal Binary version (UB)

as bry said you’ll need the mac version.

some will come with a mac installer and some will come as a VST/AU file, these will need to be manually installed by

For Vst :

Mac HD > Library > Audio > Plug-ins > Vst

For AU:

Mac HD > Library > Audio > Plug-ins > Components

Once you have done this you will need to open ableton and goto

Preferences > File Folder > Plug-in Sources and select “use audio units” and “use vst plug-in system folders”

you may also need to select rescan.

Jon quick question?
I have switched from pc to I-mac so still getting used my way round the mac as well.
Is there a folder in the app for sample cd's ect or do they go in the library?

Just create a sub folder in the Music folder and drop your samples into that.

Mac Hd > User > Home (could be your name) > Music

Right click or ctrl click > New folder

this will usually be were your mac will have folders installed for ableton, logic, itunes so on

hope that helps

Hi, I use Ableton Suite 8 on Windows 7. I have a demo of Reaktor that I want to use with Ableton, but cannot get it to show in the Plug-in devices area. In the preferences menu, the options in "Plug-in sources" are limited to "Rescan Plug-ins", "Use VST Plugin custom folder" (switched on) and "VST Plug-in custom folder"
(set to an Ableton folder I created in the C drive.) I'd really appreciate it if you could come up with some possible solutions.

Thanks

if you are using a custom plugin folder then you will need to make sure you are installing all of your plugins to that directory and not to their default directories
