We have been peaking a few things on here and just wonder do people actually listen to new peoples stuff or do we have to be part of the academy crew for ages before you will listen and leave us feedback?
We would really appreciate you guys taking a listen to our stuff because we are here to learn and no better way than you giving us feedback.
Our new tune is in the tunes section … we thank you all in advance for any feedback that could help
hey,
i try to listen to peoples tracks and comment on a somewhat regular basis. to be honest though a couple of things happen. if i listen to a track that im really not into and feel like i have to put a lot of effort in figuring out a nice thing to say about it than i decide not to comment. part of me wants to be honest and tell them that i dont like it for what ever reason but feel it would not be respectful of someones feelings. also if a see that theres a subscribers track next to a registered member i will got to the subscriber and comment on theirs first.
i feel like they are more serious about the site, its not just a free forum to me, its something i pay for and learn from and everyone that contributes in my opinion helps the site.
i also will not listen to a track from someone if its on some dodgy file sharing site. i tryed to give some advice to another member and downloaded two tracks of one of these and since then my computer has been having some problems.
ill give your track a listen if its on soundcloud and leave some comments.
as i cant speak for others on this site , this is pretty much my thought process when it comes to comenting on tracks
Not all of us can afford to be subscribers sadly that doesnt mean we are any less dedicated. Thats a very narrow way to look at things. People can be just as dedicated if they don’t have as much money.
i tried to listen to other people’s tracks when i get spare time but giving feedback is something that can very often back fire, if what is written gets read different to its intention people tend to get offended. like tommy has said its hard to give feedback on tracks that are not really my thing.
also feedback like “hey great track” or “cool” don’t really help anyone.
if i feel i can give some constructive feedback then i will, in the same way that if i don’t feel that i can add anything to what has been done i won’t comment.
the thing with feedback is that its not very often that the person who’s track it is actually want their track ripping apart and all the fault pointing out…
i thought my view was pretty level headed if you ask me. i have commented on many tracks .people who are subscribers and just members if you had been around for awhile you would of realized that.
i never said they where less dedicated. i said contribute less. and by that i meant paying for a subscription.posting comments and helping people out is good but wont pay sonics rent. if we had no subscribers there would be no sonic.
if you had 500 posts and where still just a member and not a subscriber id more likely check out your track. everyone shows favoritism in one way or another.
i think your comment on me being narrow minded is in itself narrow minded.
if i said i only answers posts to subscribers than i would agree but i didnt.
i think thats all i need to say except that i try to be respectful , helpful, and fair with my actions on this site.
its not a paticularly expensive subscription fee for what you are getting anyways… in fact, its worth every penny of it
bit off the point… excuse me , just had to throw that in!
We are more than sure its worth every penny but do not discriminate because someone is new, doesn’t have the cash to subscribe and hasn’t been around as long as others.
Really you guys disapoint us. We heard amazing things about this place so joined up to see what people were saying and all we can see right now is alot of people making excuses and pushing new producers who are here to learn and progress further and further away.
We wil always listen to tracks and regardless if its “our style” or what we “like” there is always some constructive feedback that can be given. Mix down tips, people saying “that may not fit well there”, these things are clashing etc.
After all Music is music regardless of genre and people are equal regardless on if they are new, old, rich, poor, into dnb, trance, hard dance or electro.
We hope we can see the people on this forum the way we were told you all were and hope to spend alot of time here learning. Perhaps when we save enough cash we will be able to subscribe (you don’t know us so you don’t know our situation for money and we would never judge you on things like that so don’t judge us) … Fair . isn’t it!

This is EXACTLY my issue too, spot on.

+1
No subscribers = No Sonic Academy = An unhappy Roben

You’ve completely got the wrong end of the stick.
We, like you, are here to learn, we love this place and love to share our knowledge where we can too. It isn’t a requirement of ourselves, or anyone for that fact, to have to feedback everyones track.
The problem is, I’d love to feedback everyone, but even though i’ve got my first remix release i still don’t feel that qualifies me yet to really pass judgement on people and their production skills.
Read Jons post that I quoted, he’s pretty much hit the nail on the head.
dude, im not discriminating against anyone. ive explained my views twice. quit trying to back me into a corner. this is one of the best forums on the web for music production.
and just because i said something you didnt like doesnt make everyone else on this site the same as me and it doesnt mean their arent really nice and helpful people here that dont share my views. i cant see how you can say your disappointed in the site.
you asked a honest question and i gave you a honest answer. you said my views are narrow and i defended myself , now the site as a whole is a disapointment to you.
not the best logic in my opinion
spend some more time here and im sure youll realize your making assumptions that are false.
ive taken the time to try to be a good steward for the site and show you that we care about new members.
youve succeded in one thing though , im going to listen to your track when i get home and give you some feedback. all i can say now is welcome to the site
I have been with Sonic for 6 months now, and I am really proud to be part of this company and this forum. I love the help and support that everyone gives on here. I wish I could post more, but we are a very small team trying to push out a hell of a lot of content. I do look at the forums and guys like tommyt, Jon, howie and Roben (to name a few) are so integral to what we do. It is not about having no money, I think its about time. I think people on here will give feedback if they can or feel it will help, but its not a given. Stick around, get involved in the discussions and get to know everyone on here, it will pay off. Thats my 2 cents…
Personally I listen to most of the stuff, but because I’m not too long in the production game (messing about for 10 years only taking it seriously in last year), I don’t feel qualified enough to give true constructive views, and by me saying something like “yeah cool track” wouldn’t really cut the mustard too often
I’d like to be able to comment more, I know enough to keep myself happy, but I don’t think it’s just enough to be able to comment on all of the tracks people post… if that makes sense lol.
I think more specific questions would get a lot more responses, such as why my kick drum sucks, or how to make this or that sound wider, how to create more interest, etc
You need to know what you want from your track first, you are the producer.

good point here… people c’ant be expected to give feedback on the entire length of peoples tune’s … that could take forever! maybe people could be more specific on exactly what part of the tune they are lookin for feedback on, more constructive feedback may then be attained???
plus…
I’m still new here but have seen already that tommyT is one of the most helpful people on this site … he is just trying to get a point across,no hard feelings i guess:D!
I think that commenting other people tracks can be a little Difficult . taking things personally could be the greatest issue that people have. i really like constructive criticism too so i know that u are trying to learn from ur mistakes .
other Schools that offer personall Reviews are way to overpriced and the reviews are something u can get from other sources .
SA might implement this in the future i think but if you really want a constructive , Hateful and Biased reviews . try to go to this site
www.Garageband.com
u review tracks and get credit for your track to be reviewed
U Will have Good Reviews by Pros and also hate comments from people who barely know what EDM is all about . but if you are the kind of guy who handles insults and not take things personally . this might be the site you are looking for .
hopefully this Helps
