Does anybody eleses ears really hurt them after listining to music?

anyone the same? cant reali produce because of it. .

Do my ears hurt? No.

Why? Because i don’t play it too loud and when i do (because im DJing) i wear ear plugs.

what do ear plugs do though? i actully need protection :L after years of abusing me ears its actually scary… i think it mite end up a Frankie Wilde situation

use some of those man

Yeah what he ^^ said basically.

You can pick up a pair for as cheap as £15.

But you can get some professionally moulded to your ear shape for between £100/£200. Check out specsavers hearcare, i know they do the service but there are others who do too.

id say check the frequencies specs on your headphones/speakers …its more than likely really high frequencies that are hurting you.

believe it or not i ran into the same prob when i started producing first on headphones and a korg electribe,

now im on ableton, i figured out by looking at a spectrum analyzer i could see the frequencies that were actually hurting me.

That said tho roben is rite, what kinda producer/dj would any of us be with no hearing,

I must get plugs myself.

How bout turning the volume down…

Wow, you have got to protect your ears!! Mate.

Firstly. get your ears checked out.

You dont want it to go "It's All Gone Pete Tong" (2004)!<br> (Watch that movie if you havent seen it)

I read an interview with Adam Freeland in 97

and he said the best advise he can give is to turn

down the volume. When producing and Djing.

I have done this ever since.

I rarely listen to music on my iPhone and I set the

master volume down. And I save my ears for production time.

So volume down, buy ear buds and use a spectrum analyzer.

Spectrum analyzer is a good idea to check the frequencies without

turning up the volume.

I hope you ears are OK!

I can not stress more go get your ears checked out as soon as possible as you could do more damage which could be unrepairable.

the reason your ears hurt is because the volume and length of time you listen to music, your ears are like any other part of your body and if you over work them they will become tired and ache.

also like every other part of your body over working it can cause damage but unlike the rest of your body your ears will not repair if the damage hast gone to far.

if your ears hurt then turn off your music and keep it off for a couple of weeks dude give your ears time to rest and yourself, you may find stress levels will come down with no music playing. loud music for long amounts of time can cause stress due to the amount of noise pollution your a creating around your self.

+1 jon…

I really don’t understand… you know your ears hurt because you listen to music “very loud” but you still ask if anybody else have the same problem ! Seriously… it’s just like asking if anybody hurts their eyes after watching at the sun for a couple of minutes…

  1. Consider doing a visit to an Oto-Rhino-Laryngologist, he should be able to check out your ears and see if you damaged them…
  2. Buy yourself earplugs and use them everytime you produce music, everytime you perform your live or your dj set and everytime you go to a concert or a party where the volume is going to be high and/or loud.
  3. TURN THE VOLUME DOWN…

Ears are too precious for musician… you must take great care of them !

yeh thats all good advice… really hope it wont be a Its all gone pete tong situation im only 17! bu i think ill get them cheakd out… my hearing is ok now… same as its always beem, but if i put on headphones or anything they really hurt and its hard to stop because im like addicted to music haha il look into those earplugs too i definitly need them…

if you do a bit of studying or even ask a ear doctor, you’ll find out that the younger you are the easier your ears are to damage.

Earplugs are helpful when you go somewhere where you can’t control the volume level… parties, concert… in fact, every noisy place. Depending of the filter, they can reduce the volume by 9, 15, 25 dB, …

You don’t need earplugs when you listen to music at home or when you listen to your iPod because you just need to lower the volume to a reasonable level by yourself…

Everytime you listen to your iPod at max volume, everytime you go to a concert and stand in front of the speakers to feel the air breeze on each kick drums, you must be aware that you are stressing your eardrums and those damages can’t be fixed. You’re not invincible, neither are your ears ! Believe me or not… when you start experiencing such things as tinnitus, you regret not having respected your eardrums…

Sorry for my bad english, i hope you understand everything. I’m not trying to be rude… but this is so important, you must be careful ! :w00t:

There’s some advice i read somewhere is that you should never listen to your walkman/ipod/whatever through earplugs at more than 60% of volume for more than 2 hours.

Also yes it’s the high frequencies that do the most damage to your ears, check what settings your ipod may be on, you may have in the settings set the EQ boost of treble which is a bad idea, make sure it’s not.

There is a free app you can download for your ipod/iphone called ‘uHear’, ok so it’s not as good as actually SEEING SOMEONE, but it’s a good little tool to use at home for your own self test.

Download it, get yourself into a quiet room and listen through headphones, it will give you a series of beeps and buzzes at different frequencies in each ear, you have to click when you hear it.

It ends up giving you a graph which tells you how well your hearing is.

Mine is really good except for my right ear which in some frequencies are a little below due to being born deaf and having a perforated ear drum in that ear when i was a kid. Considering though, my graph was still very good.

I have my ear plugs constantly in my wallet, in one of the little pockets which i think is actually meant to keep change (i just keep my change loose in my pocket so i have never used it) and whenever i’m in the club (or any other noisy enviroment) and i feel that it’s too loud/uncomfortable i just stick my plugs in, they’re brilliant because i can still hear the music well, i can hear my friends talk to me even easier (something to do with the way it channels the frequencies) but it is reducing the damage the music can cause.

I can’t stress enough how much EVERYONE should get a pair. You don’t have to fork out £100s. The£15 pair are good enough, they just arn’t as comfortable as professionally fitted ones. But it’s better having SOMETHING than NOTHING.

Really ??? They could be really helpful for me… since a few years, I find it hard to understand what my friends says when we are in a party. I always have to ask them to repeat and sometimes, i just have to say “yeaaah, sure” even if i did not understand what they said… :hehe:

Until now, I had no problems but i just hope nobody will ever ask me “hey, are you looking at my gf ?” :w00t:

What??

my ears dont hurt with pain …but i have developed something like Tinitus over the years

in my left ear…that i use to monitor with …if everything is really quiet, then i can slightly hear this really high pitched ringing sound .eeeeeeeeeee …if i pay enough attention to it …its pretty annoying …lol

i went to the Doctor like 4 or 5 months ago and i had the same issue with my hearing . luckily the doctor didnt find anything wrong except that i cant hear certain frequencies wich he said that is normal for someone to my age . but he did found out that i had infected my ears drum due that i was picking my ear with a cotton swab after the shower. he told me if that i damaged my hearing i wouldnt notice that much and speak louder to people .

so in conclusion , going to the doctor will clear your mind and of course exposing to loud volume will affect you alot. try to not work that much with headphones because sometimes you cant be able to notice the peaks of volume.

hopefully you are doing good . and take care of your hearing
