Does SA read the tutorial request section of the forums?

Hey I was just thinking that out of all the different topics I read requesting different tutorials its very rare that SA actually follow it up with a tutorial series. Now I know its impossible to make a series for every single different thread requesting a different style but right now it seems like your just putting all different genres in a hat and picking random things to do.

There have been lots of requests with good support from subscribers posting in them and they just seem to be completely over looked. I havent been keeping up with everything but ive seen countless threads for dutch house, lotsa threads for harder styles of dance and an overall demand for some more house tutorials.

Mabey if a bit more notice was taken of the different requests then you wouldnt have 10 threads every week pretty much asking for the same thing.

Im not having a go, its just SA finished really strong last year and the last two months it seems like just quick vids explaining completely random things with short tips etc. I just wish that we have some idea as the how SA chooses what their going to do and mabey updates occasionally with previews of whats going to be coming up would also be nice.

It all just seems a bit too random at the moment a bit more structure would be nice and if your really struggling on what the cover then have a poll for only subscribers to vote for what they want.

Yes.

I think the idea to poll for content would be a good idea as it would take some of the argument out of the subject and subscribers would know what to expect.

Jamie its all well and good making short one word replies but what are your counters to some of the points I made?

JJ,

First, I was just trying to be funny. Secondly, I think if you had a poll, you would be disappointed to find that a great majority of us here would request tutorials that you wouldn’t be interested in seeing. What is it that you want them to provide, exactly? I’m not seeing specific requests…

J

I have email notificaions so i read a huge amount of the stuff on here… We try to do tutorials we havnt done yet… Or improove ones that we feel are outdated.

Disco tech will up this week… Something new… should be interesting to both housey and techy heads.

Asking for every sub genre of recent tutorials falls on deaf ears as you can imagine… It shouldnt take me to tell you to get from peak time trance to progressive trance you watch the progressive house tut and mix some of those ideas in.

Also if some of the more advanced guys are finding they are too advanced for what we do we would love to see demos for tutorilas you could do yourselves… We would love to expand our content using our current users… Much like what jamie has done… Shared some knowlege made some great vids, get some cash… Result!

Can you expand on this phil… got my attention there!

Jamie is an expert at music theory… He sent some demo vids and we agreed the content and a price.

If you are interested in doing something drop me an email outlining your idea and maybe a demo video sand go from there.

No jamie this isnt about me or what I want its about seeing strong support for different genres and then seeing SA doing something completely different. I just wondered about how the different tutorials are actually chosen it seems a bit random. At the moment it seems like if you really want a tutorial on say drum n bass your gonna have to post a request for a tutorial on how to bake a cake. This is how random it sometimes seems.

Ok, JJ. I hear you.

But in their defense, I will say one of two things: First, tutorials are extremely difficult and time consuming to make. I can attest to this after making a couple of rounds with the theory. It’s hard! Not only because you have to think about how you’re going to teach it, but it’s also about making an applicable set of tunes or components to prove it actually is useful!

Secondly, there are literally too many styles by name out there that essentially have very little musical difference from one to the next. For example, your interest in making a tune in the Dutch House style would be easily achieved if you extracted minimal-style percussion, tribal drums, a peak-trance lead, and a bit of edge from the Hard dance. These are videos that exist right this moment already on the front page. It’s all there.

One of the mistakes of an artist is falling into the “fan” mentality of being hyper-sensitive to style and what makes one style different/better/worse than another, and fighting endlessly about it. What’s even worse is forcing oneself to fit into a style that they might not be very proficient in making. Why not take the skills that interest you (of which you find in existing videos) and do what comes naturally? Your productions will be easier to start, complete, and essentially sell if you tried this as opposed to waiting for a tutorial on a style that is almost 15 years old now…
