Aw d@mn, guess I missed the only topic I could be useful in lol. I ordered the HD650, K701, K240, and ATH-M50 and broke them all in for 500 hours before two weeks of listening and finally settling on keeping the M50 and the K701. The 650s were nice but they just didn’t wow me like the other two did. Good luck with them!
Oh, and the K701/702 do sound very different after breaking them. It really smooths them out.

Thanks for the input dude … I just ordered the HD 650’s express delivery from Amazon this morning, should be with me tomorrow before 1pm … Ooooo I just did a sex wee!
When you say the K701’s Wow’d you. Do you mean they made music sound awesome or did they have a wow flat, precise response, as that’s what I’m after. 
Just in general they sounded very clear and precise in the highs and mids and I felt I was getting a really clear picture of what was actually going on. I didn’t feel the same with the lows so that’s why I kept the M50s around (which are a phenomenal set of cans at any price but especially for only $129). Going between the two really works for me but full disclosure I’ve only been doing this about 6-12 months so I’m not super learned or anything. 
The K701s are super power hungry so I use them with a Matrix M-Stage. Great and well priced amp. Also cleans up the M50s a bit too.

Yeah I have thought about a headphone amp, but I’m trying to ignore it!
Do I really need a headphone amp for the 650’s or can I get away with plugging it straight into my imac socket? :ermm:

I honestly can’t remember if I tried the 650 without the amp so I don’t think I can offer much opinion on that, but even though they’ll be great everything I’ve read says it really doesn’t do them justice to use them without one. :hehe:
On a side note, just got my first iMac in the mail two days ago from apple and am thoroughly in love. 
well i use my HD 650 plugged into my M-Audio 410 so i dont need any amp, but i can check later how they sound plugged directly to my Macbook pro 13".
