Early Christmas Present!

So I have had cash clearance from the family to purchase a pair of headphones for chrimbo …

My choices are AKG K701s or Sennheiser HD650s … which is best for mixing? :w00t::w00t:

can your family adopt me please

As long as you put on a Welsh accent and fatten up a bit, you’ll fit right in!

I think Moulinex are a great brand - Have you seen if anything is in your price range Gav?

Not so sure about the accent but I have some Welsh phrases

Alright bud

and

I know how to use the word tidy

Oh I can smell a Greggs from 2 miles away :stuck_out_tongue:

I have a pair of akg 702’s which are pretty much the same as 701’s with a detachable cable and what not. They are fantastic for mixing in my opinion (as far as headphones go). The sound stage is particularly good.

The bass is very honest though. Lots of people don’t seem to like it, you’re not going to get that “beats by dr dre” bombastic and hyped low end type of sound but for mixing this is what you’re looking for anyways. Overall I would say they are better for mixing than the hd 650’s especially in the sound staging area.

However, they are notoriously power hungry. For example, If you plug them into you Ipod they will drain the battery in 30 mins. You absolutely need a headphone amp to drive them. I bought an little dot MKIII amp which works well with them. I tried running them directly to my audio interface and it was very underwhelming. I’m not sure if the hd 650’s are as hungry as the MKIII’s, however, in this price range you really should be lookign at an amp to accompany your cans.

Thanks for the tip holmes … I’m hoping to stay under £300 and I’ve heard loads of good reviews about the HD650’s. People saying things like they out perform monitors under £500. Not sure how true this is, but it got me erect! Especially because I have to be quiet after 7:00pm!

You got me wondering about the AKG’s again now though after that review!

Slend … it’s alright ‘Butt’ not ‘Bud’ and its ‘Butty’ not ‘Buddy’ … our door is now closed to you! :stuck_out_tongue:

ICN … gonna check out the make you suggested … are they the tits for mixing?

Tbh G they replaced my bd DT100’s and they were supposed to be industry standard lol so take from that what you will! But I think my mixdowns are **** anyway lol :hehe:

I purchased a pair of HD 650’s only had them about a month now and I’m really happy with them to be fair. There was a lot of really good reviews on the forums about them which is what swung it for me. Think I paid £265 for them and I worth every penny.

One thing I will say is that I used them to DJ last weekend and wasn’t that impressed as a set of DJ headphones. They didn’t really block the sound from the monitor speakers but having said that the monitors were very loud in the club. Im going to stick to the Sony’s for DJ’ing and the 650’s for producing from now on.

If it’s just production you want them for then my advice would be go for it.

I am massively leaning towards the 650s at the moment! Think ill go for it, I hate waiting!!!

I was like a kid at christmas waiting for mine to arrive. Think Iv managed to finish one track since Iv had them and when I played it on the club system there was a huge improvement in sound quality. Things like EQ’ing Kick drums with Fab Filter are now a lot clearer with these cans.

I read somewhere that the 701’s sound changed after they wore in. Can’t back it up though…

Next week they will be mine!!! Can anyone recommend a good place to buy? I tried dolphin music but they said that Sennheiser wouldn’t let them sell them anywhere other than their own store, but I’ve seen them on Amazon. Knowing my luck they’ll end up being a battered pair from a dodgy online shop selling through amazon!!

I have linked the site that I purchased mine from. They are still £265 at the moment with free delivery. Mine came next day I think. Enjoy m8 there awesome.
