You may beleive this or not but i use a mike that I bought from a pound shop - ****e quality but it has that something special - if not i just use my Tascam - a lot of my sounds come from these
Oh I should say I am a cheapskate - lol
well money really isnt that big of a deal to me… coming from a society where quality products yield quality results. I feel this way about anything I buy in music industry.
seriously if i had a fcuk ton of quality equipment I would be a superstar in hollywood.
I’m not sure that is so true - for example Live has a certain grit to it rather than say Logic
I don’t want my found sounds to be correct if I did I would just go on freesound and probably be able to find anything I want - I like the chaos and surprise - but again thats me and I am wierd
true because I have seen producers with quality equipment who are absolute crap but I have also been around many more who do it well. Ableton and Logic are both quality products in their own rights and more often than not if used correctly yield pretty damn good results.
Because of my opinions and the way I was raised, I want a quality mic that will give me a cleaner sound(Clean does not mean that the sound is so clean without a blemish) maybe clear is a better word, so i can use my DAW of choice or Maschine to layer distortion and effects on top.
I know, I’m that **** who’s going all digital on everything and ruining the industry
I think what Paul is trying to say is that its better to be unique & see if you can find the special powers in something ordinary.
You can do that with expensive equipment, but its nice to get a little bit of magic from something that is yours & yours alone.
Buy away - but do a test on something cheap first & see how you get on.
For the amount of time y’ll use it & the amount of time it’ll sit idle, give it a try
I can work with that but in the next year I’ll be working in pro style studio at whichever school I decide to go to. I wanna get close to that kind of quality now so there won’t be much variance between working in a bedroom and studio.
Another question I have is that I dont feel my breaks are that strong, would you guys think it would be a solid idea to put a top end kick in there to carry over. I think right now I’m losing a lot of momentum in my breaks. Or even a snare or open hat
Try it man… every track is different. I usually just cut the lows with the kick still playing.
Have the filter afer any comp’s on your master so it doesnt fk the comp.
Sometimes, bounce a section & gradually lower the volume a little before it kicks back in, while slowly taking out the lows…
Obviously, over a longer section ,its nice to introduce a new element, or have an existing element fading up again.
yeah definitely! i introduced some of that into this track I dont think its very noticeable though.
my first tracks i used automation sparingly and its slowly becoming my favorite part about building a track. Each of the tracks here have tons of automation which somehow i think is drowned out by the SC player… SC cant handle the bass:P
I’ll listen to the track tomorrow. Too drunk atm
