Editing MIDI in Logic

If there’s one thing I find annoying about logic, it’s that anytime I enter a MIDI note, it creates a note that’s the same length as the last note I created. Is there a way to make it so that I can have the note respond to the current value of my grid?

Ableton works this way and I love it! If I’m in 16th notes, the pencil tool will make a 16th note, if I’m in 1/4 notes, the pencil will make a quarter note…and so on. Logic on the other hand doesn’t seem to do this and it drives me crazy. If the last note that I made was 2 bars, then I want to create a 16th note pattern, I have to deal with the first note I ender have a value of 2 bars, and then use the trim tool to shrink it down to a 16th note. This seems like such a waste of time to me.

Any help would be great!

Cheers,

John
