Hello all,
Since people (not naming names… Well I suppose you could look below) have been asking about this, I thought, why don’t we start this. I’d love just to hear what other people listening to within this genre, what tips they have, what they’d like to learn. Personally I just want to know how to really make that electro bass. I still don’t quite get it, and the Glitch Step House doesn’t totally cover the sound I’m thinking. But that’s just me, I’ll embed later. What are you listening to? What do you want to learn?
LET THE TECHNO vs. ELECTRO BATTLE CEASE
currently i am really into those modulated bassline,so what i wanna know is how to resample those and what effect should be applied to them, like how does skrillex or excision come up with basslines idea like that
Ive been listening to

You wont be able to recreate those sounds but you can get close or maybe re create it by mistake Just make a bass Tone and Go through the effects in Ableton and add them and move the parameters around and move them before or after certain effects to see what it does try adding effects to Returns play around get creative…As for effects for modulation i love the Flangers + Phaser Combo for those ripping and vowly effects a vocoder sometimes just to add movement…Put some filters in for extra modulation and movement sometimes its good to Stretch your sounds you get some crazy Stuff…
Also automating some of the parameters within the synth can do wonders so try to get the movement first and then add the distortion.
When you re-sample you can do it many ways you can split the frequencies into two (lows)and(Mid-High) or you can do the traditional (low)(mid)(High) or what ive been doing recently (low)(mid Lows)(mids)(high Mids)(Higshs) so i ahve control of all the frequencies.

Thats a really good post
One problem which I have is how to really bring out the “epicness” within the drop. Electro drops are all about being massive and sort of slap-you-in the face, at least the ones I’m working with. The thing is, all the parts sound right, the kick is coming through nice and punchy, but it just doesn’t have that grand feeling to it…
Ideas?
so can we post new stuff of the genre ? :D
Yes of course!
This is honestly not promotion (although it’s from my label :D)
I think this track just has a very cool vibe

i’ve been wondering the same thing myself… got any reference tracks you could post to give us an idea of what youre looking to do?
Ergh the drop is just slap you in the face kick *** HUGE
Thought I might do a bit of publicity for this one… It’s electro + dutch, sort of a new sound.

Cmon lets keep this thread alive! haha… so I thought I’d get some feedback on a problem i’m facing with this whole “complextro” altered bassline tracks.
I guess I get it but then I dont… I’ve been analyzing a few tracks and i;ve seen there are a couple of variations. But the jist is that you have your main bassline playing for say 4 bars and at the end of every 4 bar riff you add in some variance.
Another one i’ve heard is more rhythmic based where there is no variance in pitch, just how each bass is playing at any given time. So for instance you have a four bar riff where the first bar plays the first bass for a quarter note. The second bar plays another bass in the same key but the rhythm is played differently say 4 eight notes as though… the third bar and so on…
Anyone else care to chime in? Flaxo?
Subject1 dude that song is BAD ***…
Flaxo you should of realised by now the only threads that get stickied on SA are Techno threads
I’ve been listening to this lately:
I know it's not QUITE electro, but prog house and electro are fusing a lot these days. This definitely has the feel of something Wolfgang would make, save for the drop.
wow that axwell trailer was awesome, same for the track subject one posted too.
ive been liking this one for a bit now.
