I am trying to finish off a riff with a booming sub bass. its already pretty boomish, but what i really am looking for is that HUGE sub bass.
Is eq and compression a good way to do this ? currently i am not using a saturator or any eqs or compression. I just am using an operator with an autofilter.
try to eq the kick and if you have a heavy sub bass. i would suggest to roll of with a HP filter the kick . then try to sidechain the bass with the kick . try to check the sa tutorial videos . it shows how u process Bass
You generally want your kick to be the subbiest part of your track a nice way to clean up your whole bass is to cut it between 40-50hz giving it a nice roll off. Also try to keep your kick and sub bass seperate and/or sidechained. Use an eq to find sweet spots of boom in yoir bass and kick and cut/boost with an eq.
everything depends on:
- if u have a subby Kick, than u Bass should not be too subby. And other way around.
- Look into Spectrum analyzer of Kick & Bass. If they peak at the same Frequency
you could EQ the Bass a bit by lowering at that peak.
- If your bass sounds to heavy. lowering some Frequencies around 200Hz will give it some space.
- Don t use too much Plugins like RBass, BassBooster etc !
- Mono Everything below 300Hz with plugins like Basslane(freeware) : http://www.toneprojects.com/products/plug-ins/basslane
- If your kick doesn t fit with the Bass, change it instead of over-EQing it.
here a tut how to EQ it:
have fun,
cheers
