So I am looking to plug in my synths into a mixer before putting the mixers output into Ableton to work from there.
So…I’m a little unsure as to what to get for hardware. But do know these are my needs. Any help would be fantastic:
-Outputs split on different channels. Would be ideal to have the output from the mixer to Ableton come through on multiple channels in Ableton instead of one.
-EQ’ing/Gain Pumping on the individual channels. I think most mixers have this.
-Full frequency EQ. Here’s my main question. Is this generally a separate piece of hardware than the Mixer? I mean a full graphical EQ that has sliders for the full freq range (and possibly gain boosting). My other related question is would I be able to fully EQ each channel or just the overall output from the mixer? Or if this is something that is built into a nice mixer is that something that can be done for each channel or just the master so to speak?
-Ideally I’d want to EQ each channel and filter out certain freqs and boost others for each channel and then of course do it one more time at the master level.
Just kind of confused overall as to how the hardware chain works with this.
I used to use an external mixer, but then moved over to a motu 1208 audio interface
I find this a much better way of using all my external gear. I now eq everything inside ableton
Gotcha. Yeah, that’s how I’m doing it now, but I don’t particularly care for the EQ interface in ableton (EQ 8). I prefer sliders set to frequencies like on a Graphic EQ.
That said, are there any good EQ vst’s that have a more graphic interface with sliders like a traditional mixing desk?
perhaps this can help
Graphic Equalizer Plugin, 7-Band, Harmonic [VST, AU, AAX] - Overtone GEQ - Voxengo
?
Cheers! This looks fantastic can’t wait to install and give it a whirl this weekend.
All my eqing is done inside logic and then i bounce out a wav and master it in a new logic project
Ive never even considered getting a mixer with how good software is these days
