maybe a short tutorial all about getting e-q right
Best thing to do with EQ is make changes for a reason - and only for a good reason.
The ideal is usually to remove lows - Low Cut (or Hipass) will do that.
If you want to remove the Hi’s - Hi Cut (or Lowpass) it.
You can search for frequencies that are clashing by making a sweep over the spectrum by raising the Q & Gain to find the area thats fcuking it all up - then do a (usually) long narrow cut. If you need to boost something - make a gentle bump of only a few db.
All your db of eq add up in the end - so if you boost the freq’s too much, you might just go into the red later down the line - so be aware of that.
No good just boosting & cutting without knowing what you are really doing. 2 things that will help are:
1. Club Frequency Map - like the one given away in Future Music… Great guide for where the guts & unwanted freqs are.

2. Musical Notes to Freq chart - Everthing has a basic musical pitch of sorts. Even if its a clang or a boom, there’s a buildup of freq’s mainly somewhere that gives the sound its character. If you are in doubt what to do, open a track with a simple synth playing a sine & find the pitch or use a tuner (sometimes less reliable…) and adjust the freqs based on their musical properties. It’ll teach you about octaves, which are essentially the layers in a big musical cake.
Too many Freq’s in one layer - Bad cake

Print them out - tape them infront of you.
Make the FM Pic your Wallpaper, but definitely stick the Freq/Note chart to your Desk.
