I bought a pair over the weekend and i’m not sure whether there’s a problem but there seems to be some serious static noise when i switch them on.
I’ve read a few posts on the internet that said something about them humming when close to your computer monitor, but i seem to be getting the noise wherever i put them, and when i turn up the volume on the back of the speaker it gets much louder to the point you can’t use them.
Does anyone have a pair? If so do you get any kind of buzzing/humming noise in the background? It seems to be coming from the tweeter.
Cheers
What way have you them hooked up?
Hey Phil
I am running them into my Kontrol S4 using a cable which has a 1/4" from the S4 to an XLR female which then fastens to a male-male XLR adapter into the back of the speaker. I have moved them to other parts of my room to check that my monitor (iMac) wasn’t interfering (as i read somewhere on the net this may be the case) but it made no difference. When i have the volume to -12dB on the back of the speaker it is quite loud, when i turn it to 0dB it gets much louder to the point they can’t be used, and as i get to +12dB it is incredibly loud. I noticed that one of the speakers seemed to be picking up interference from my hard drive as i started my iMac as it was making similar noises and amplifying it, but the other didn’t seem to do this.
I’ve uploaded a couple of vids to show what happens…

It could be that the tip/ring wiring on the XLR is the wrong way round… (mic cables are different to speaker cables sometimes.) id suggest getting a proper cable.
Do you know if the output from the S4 is balanced? if not you could be sending the wrong side of the balanced signal.
again a proper Balanced or unbalanced cable should help.

Hey Phil
Yeah the S4 has balanced 1/4" outputs
I have some proper cables arriving today so hopefully that will sort out the problem.
I changed the cables for some high quality ones that bypassed the need for an adapter and they work perfect now.
They are unbelievably loud and clear, love them!!!
Result!
I may have spoke too soon!
They work fine for the most part but now and again when i fire them up i get the fuzzy/humming noise. Hopefully it doesn’t decide to rear it’s ugly head permanently now i’ve told the supplier they work!
But just going back to the speakers (when they are working), i seriously cannot believe how good they sound. I was using a pair of Alesis M1 Active Mk2’s before which were ok for their price range, but the Events blow them out of the water, and everything else i listened to (Including the KRKs/Fostex/JBLs etc) I feel completely surrounded in sound, i close my eyes and i could be somewhere else. You might think i’m being a bit over the top but it’s truly amazing what a good pair of speakers can do!
