Hi Guys, I’ve been going through a number of tutorials and I have a couple of questions about Grooves added in Ableton.
When you drag a groove to a track, can you see anywhere in the trax if the groove has already been added, other than just listening to it?
Can anyone explain what is happening when you add a groove to a clip, I can hear it adds some variation to the pattern but how does it calculate the groove? I just would like to understand what it does… cheers.
To see the groove take effect on your midi you need to commit the groove.
All groove is doing is pushing or pulling your midi or audio off the grid by that pre defined amount. It gives a more live and funky feel to your programming. It can also give the impression of a lazy vibe or on the flip a more energetic vibe.

Don’t forget that it also affects each note’s velocity along with offsetting it from the grid.
