i was reading a book the other day that explained that if you have a left and right stero image of the song you want to remix you can extract the vocals using phase cancellation by shifting one of the images (left or right) so they are out of phase and because vocals sit in the middle of the mix they will be lifted from the mix…
my question is does anyone know how to do this in ableton ???

There is a way, but I forgot how to do it. There is a tech tip on this somewhere. But you cant get the vocals to use them, but you will be able to use the instrumental.

ive been experimenting with doing this using the center kill eq and the difference utility with mix results
its posible to do it if you have the original and instrumental (HAVE TO BE EXACT QUALITY DUE TO SAMPLING RATES) line the two tracks up perfectly and invert one of the tracks, was playing around with this last night got some good results
nothing works perfect not even the software that costs ££££, you’ll probably have more luck asking the original artist for the acapella that you will using phasing techniques
btw you can remove some of the background drums and hits by filtering and then using a gate
