How easy is it to map midi keyboards and such to Ableton? I would like to have something that would give me the feel of actually touching the hardware and turning knobs. I was thinking the APC40 when it comes out, but I was told that it was gonna be specifically geared to playing out live. He works with a very well known producer that produces in Live and he said that he doesn’t use anything like that for that purpose except to play out live. I really liked the APC40 because everything is already mapped out for you and you just have to be within the 8x5 box and you can start turning knobs. Any thoughts, ideas, and what might work for this or if its even worth my while.
Thanks…
It’s easy as pie mate
Yeah, that doesn’t really help me out any.
Answered your first question didn’t it? To be honest I didn’t read down to the bottom, skim read generation and all that.
Ok I don’t have that unit myself but I’ve got a Korg Kontrol 49 which isn’t far off.
Keyboard does what it should plinky plink on the keys and plinky plink or wobbly wob or boom tish comes out of the speakers.
As for the sliders and the dials, you can map them to anything in ableton, even vst stuff. There’s a button you hit, then you hit what you want to control on the screen (mouse clicks, don’t punch the screen) then you move the slider/press the key/twist the pot and hey presto you’ve mapped midi… very handy.
Google reviews of the unit - there’s bound to be a million, they’ll no doubt take you through MIDI mapping
I’ve had a mixed experience of this. ive got the oxygen8 keyboard and when i have sylenth open a few knobs control sylenth knobs - although they are assigned differnetly each time!! i haven’t got a clue where or how youchange the settings so ill try and play one handed and use the mouse in the other hand.
also, does anyone mess with the orange\blue screen for midi mapping things in ableton?
