Ok lets get crazy and think that ALL dance music is written in a minor key. This would result most probably to the Aeolian mode which i think is like the sad minor mode or whatever. What you need to do is get a midi clip in Ableton and draw in all the white notes starting from D and going up to D. JUST the white notes!!! Ok with this pattern you can move the starting note to ANY key you want and you will instantly see the scale you have available to you if you wanna write it in i think its called the natural minor or the Aeolian mode, im not great with specifics, ask Jamie lol. But A HELL OF ALOT of dance music is written in this mode and i think this should be a great start up for anyone whos watched Jamies vids on modes etc and wants to start applying it in an easy way for their productions.
Now im not gonna supply the midi because i want to believe there arent any retards on here that cant draw in all the white notesstarting from D. Thats all you need to do, then you can also hear how it sounds and hear all the different scales in the Aeolian mode as you move this pattern up and down the keyboard. Then all you need to do is grab one you like the sound off.
Then if you really wanna get fancy, check out the circle of 5ths for the relative major and get some cool modulation going on
