Fired

Wow Man just been fired from my job 6 weeks before xmas … cant quite believe it .

and they stated poor attendance for it …i have a doctors note for the period i was off for two odd months in a body cast and for an extra month .i told them that i would need another month to get better . they told me that they could put me on a desk job so i agreed … i even did the stupid shifts no one else would do. ( oh well maybe this will give me time hone my skateboarding skills )

I feel that as an employee you have no rights anybody else had this and can shed some light on it ??

Hey sorry about that mate - but you may have a case for unfair dismissal - if you want to pm me I could give you some advice as at work (CAB) there has been an increase of wrongfull sackings etc etc

I’ve had to let a few people go in the past, for lots of different reasons - so I kinda know from the other side how it goes. Its probably a bit different in Ireland - but for the most part we’re the same I’d say.

You need to get in touch with Citizens Advice - they would have info relating to employee rights in Ireland… I’m sure its same in UK.

If your attendance was poor before the Accident, then that could have contributed. Although they must be utter mo’fo’s to kick a man when he’s down. That would be so frowned upon here if it went to a case. If they did that, then they might have taken advice  from their HR dept / or a HR Company (Employeers Rights) - who told them that you would have no comeback.

If you were on Probation (its the 1st 3months over here, although depends on the T’s & C’s of the contract that you signed… could be more) - then they could be well within their rights to let you go. If you had your probation extended, or didnt pass it for whatever reason, you were still in the dangerzone.

I’d say its the way it is now. Companies are acting like right cnuts. I hear lots of stuff from my Mates about whats going on with them. Seems like they’re looking for stuff to stick on your file 24/7 - so that when they have to, they can let you go. Jekyll & Hyde overnight. Load of wank.

Either way - you need to give CA a bell about it. Really sorry to hear that Egg.

Give Slender a Shout about it Man… He’s connected

Damn sorry to hear that. But, yeah, take advice. Without knowing all the details can’t say either way how it will go but you NEED to speak to someone impartial (CAB) directly, give them all the facts and let them advise.

I would have thought that lack of attendance is a dodgy thing to fire someone for without some kind of run up to it - letters, meetings, reports on file, etc - especially if part of the absence was sick certificated.

Good luck mate.

thats exactly it man they proper switched on me and yeah i resigned a contract when i got back and i think you can guess where thats going ( re probationary period as ive gone from my job to a desk job in a different building ) Now im just plain angry man

they have royally screwed me over !!! i should have had the new contract looked over by the union !!! cab just told me no point in following itll just waste my time .

In short im ****ed !!

Thanks for your thoughts guys appreciate it

UN F U C K ING REAL

Cant believe that. That is fkd. So sorry Mate. Terrible.

What did they say exactly in regards to the new position?

Sneaky. But it does sound as if they are covered legally… You’ll need to make 100% of that (given the circumstances with your accident etc…)

But the fact it was a new contract, there might not be that much room for maneuver. Utterly morally wrong though.

What prompted them letting you go? Was it just the fact that you were going to be missing more time in the future?

nope i went back to work thinking it was all good and they had made concessions for the fact i was unable to do the physical side of the job

i thought they were being cool about things man in fact they were gearing me up for the boot !

Yeah theyre totally covered :frowning:

Sorry again Mate - What are you gonna do now, do you think?

How are you feeling in yourself, are you back to normal yet?

Well employers are using every trick under the sun to get rid off staff within the law which as you would expect totally biased towards them and not the likes of us - even when some off my clients have won their tribunal they then had to go to a small claims court to actually get any payment that had been previously awarded - which as you can imagine for my more vulnerable clients the whole process is a nightmare.

As I said egg am really sorry - but I was made redundent in my last job 3 weeks before xmas - but now I think it was the best thing that happened as I do something I enjoy, so just be angry now then look at it as an experince - as in the long run who wants to work for a company that treats its staff like that

Back to social care man im phoning my old boss today!!!

Thanx dude!!

Best of luck mate

Thats it totally.

What was happening in the good times has well & truly stopped. All the BS about empowering staff blah, blah, blah, will be on the wane.

Thats the reason why I decided to get out of Business/Management. I didnt like the way it was going. Now… Fair enough, I didnt have a job & couldnt get one when we moved (more the recessions fault than mine…). But what I did understand was how the goalposts were changing. The were looking for you to do a lot “more” than what job descriptions were about. Really interested in Performance Management (3 strikes & you’re out stuff).

Mates were talk about how top Sales guys were being put on written warnings after not meeting sales targets for a month - even though their figure were the top of the department when compared to everyone. Other friends spoke about seismic changes in attitude from bosses ovder small things (that were never an issue before). One friend of mine - different Guy in sales - had 3 different warnings on him. And they were doing that to everyone.

Lets not forget. Whether a company is doing bad financially or not (and not every company is) - The whole recession thing is a great excuse to shake things up & make more profit.

People lose out in the end - which fkkn depresses me. Whats fair is fair of course. Tough decisions do need to be made. But theres only so much evil crap that you can protect people from. Like Slender said - You’re better off without them. Just a pity the position it leaves you in now.

Thats what I’m doing now too.

A sad sad day for vulnerable irish people :P:D:hehe:

Their sadness is my happiness

peace brotha!

Sorry to hear that mate! My company is being like that at the moment, they have just fired two people and squeezed two more out. They say stuff like “you’re lucky to be in a job” and “be careful what you say, were getting rid of people at the moment” makes you feel like telling them to fk off.

Man I’m ready to leave right now but can’t because I have a kid and mortage, but I would rather be making tunes than working late for those cnuts. Have actually spoken to the mrs about it as well. If I had to I would do anything to put food on the table don’t give a sh!t anymore

If someone ruined my Christmas I’d be looking at ruining theirs! But that just me
