Firewire or USB AI

So since I am building my own PC currently I was wondering why I should or should not choose Firewire over USB Audio Interface.

I can not really see the difference and my budget is around 100 quid

Firewire is apparently more stable. It is faster, but there aren’t many options in your price range. USB sound card works fine for me but I’ve got firewire DSP processor and that works fine too  lol

If you don’t need to use a sound card with other PCs or laptops consider PCI or PCIe card, you can get for example M-Aduio audiophile for about £50.

For USB Novation Nio 2/4 is pretty good and it comes with some handy software and few flashy LEDs  Plus you can connect up a guitar to it and rock out lol seriously tho it has everything you may need, but only 2 ins so no use if you want to record a live orchestra.

Funny you should mention them soundcards i have a m-audio 2496 in my main pc, the latency is uber low, great card for £50, i see no need to upgrade it tbh, & also have the novation nio, which i can get some decent latency on my laptop, slightly over ya budget though at £130.00, is a good card & has a lot of features which may come in handy.

ive the 2496 in my PC too… really stable low latency

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Audiophile from my ex-tutor and I’ve used Nio for Djing and in the studio, on a PC it actually worked better with Traktor than Audio 8

Going back to usb vs fire wire, I suspect that with USB 3 gaining on popularity, fire wire will be fazed out.

Thanks folks for your input - I already had my eye on the 2496 as it seemed pretty well thought of and I like the price

I actually have a maya44usb hooked up to my laptop and amp so not really looking for a mobile solution at the moment

So in conclusion no point upgrading to firewire
