Focusrite Vrm Box...Loads of speakers in tiny box, but is it magic?

Well i finally decided to buy the VRM box. Pretty pleased with it really. Have done a couple of mix downs and they definetly sound better. I was only using a bog standad internal sound card before but the VRM has definetly identified sounds that i couldn’t hear before. A typical example would be when I loaded Sylenth and selected the preset sound. The texture of the tone was lot more defined with more low end. Overall i’m really pleased - I have only really used it in studio mode and found the KRK RP6 monitors to be good as well as the genelec monitors. Although not a replacement for monitors it does give a better quality sound - now then what headphones to buy to go with it??? want the senhieser HD 650 but can’t afford then so looking at AKG K240 or DTD 990 pro. Decisions decisions!!!

Great news Mate…

Sorry for the Hijack - but you’re famous!

I still say go for the KRK’s! But thats just my pref. they maybe coloured a bit but I like them cause they sound just like my krk monitors.

Thanks wayne i’ll give em another look at. Was just a bit worried that they were a bit bass heavy but if you rekon they sound like the monitors then thats a good start.

ICN - cant believe i’m famous - I get everywhere LOL!!

Wayne,

Just looking at these KRK 8400 cans - they defo have a good frequency range. How are they plugged straight into the VRM - are they loud enough etc??

yeah they are good imo mate, the vrm box 2 vol level settings, -6 db and 0db so you can boost the vol no mattter which headphones you use mate.

Thanks Mate.

just got this and it is way cool!!!

I seen it advertised a while ago in Future Music, thing is that it’s not ‘quite right’, because the way I see it is sure it ‘replicates’ these speakers but these speakers you’re still only hearing through your own speakers so they’re still not quite going to sound like the real thing.

So it kinda contradicts itself in a way surely?

you’re right they don’t sound like “the real thing” BUT i was suprised how good it sounds.

it’s good for what it’s claiming to be “virtual reference monitor”

if you have a bedroom studio set up and there are times you’re not able to play music loud I would look into getting this nifty little piece of gear. It’s not completely acurate like Roben mention but it will certainly keep the inspiration going during times when you have to turn the monitors down.;)
