Full vocal version of track i previously posted. advice/opinions?

hi guys,

i posted this below a few weeks ago in another thread:

hi guys

the story is, im writing a track for a female vocalist for her to perform at a concert in spain in june. she already has a few tracks and wanted one more to complete her set. did one a couple of weeks ago (grace 1 mix 1) but she tells me she thinks its abit too clubby for the festival, so asked me to write something else abit more pop/summer.

well i was finally able to get the singer to pop round to record her vocals this weekend.

heres the full vocal version. any advice/comments very welcome!

hi guys

pulled the track last week cos the singer had some issues with it. made some edits and re uploaded today. what you think? any opinions would be great. good or bad. what doesnt kill us makes us stronger and all that lol

hey,

your track has a nice balearic feeling!

the vocal should be a little bit louder. try also to play around

a little bit with different reverbs.

you should work on some transitions to make them more smooth.

but good work, all sounds fit well into the mix.

greets

I’d agree mate, the track is sweet but the vocal could do with coming forward in the mix abit. Did you compress the vocal?

Danny

ive listened it on a few diff systems now and ive raised the vocal volume slightly. gonna re-upload now. thanks for listening and the comments!!

Said it couldn’t find the link but I seen one which was uploaded an hour a go so I checked it out.

I think this is great BTW. So funky & I’m sure this would sit right at home with a bunch of similar tracks on beatport or stompy. Listening on **** headphones but I still feel there is a tiny bit of mud somewhere low. However I know once you start cutting too much bass it can sound lifeless.

wow thats a nice comment saying that it wouldnt sit badly on beatport! :w00t:

thank you! how would you suggest i look deeper into the mud thing your talking about? a harmonic analyzer?

This is where I would try a number of things TBH. Although don’t take any of my advice because I suck:P

Maybe try some eqing but If you have done some already maybe perhaps just leave it. If your kick has enough sub frequencies as well my you could do a high pass on the bass between 40 - 50hz. Remember the filter doesn’t have to be an extremly tight curve. I find this can give the kick & bass more space but any more than this & everything gets a lil thin.

Another thing, is maybe try to duck a TINY bit with a sidechain trigger. If you are already ignore this. I know this type of music can sound awful if you side chain the bass too much though. I like to use the transient of the kick just. I believe this gives me more freedom to get the required release settings & doesn’t make the sidechain sound “flat” like you nearly always get with a long subby sample.
