I been trying to nail this bass sound for a while now and I can’t get it right at all! So hoping someone here might be able to help with this one.
When the bass first kicks in to me it sounds like its a synth. I’ve had some success in tryin to get that part right. But after 2 mins the bass picks up. And its this that I can’t get at all! I’ve tried layering electric bass samples over synth subs, sounds awful! And I’ve spent longer then I’d admit to playing round with synths and searching forums to try and recreate it, no luck!
Doesn’t anyone know if this is an old disco loop? I’ve listened to it so many times now I have no idea
Any help here would be great!!
Thanks
To me it sounds like a Bass Guitar IMO, probably a sample. Running on two different tracks, one filtering just the sub textures and the other anything above, then it’s just a case of automating the volume throughout the track to create the builds in energy. It’s probably likely the higher frequency bass part also has some kinda high cut on it too. I’ve been playing with splitting my bass recently, seems to give lots more control over the energy of your tracks in a real subtle way. Hope this helps.
I didnt listen to the track, but “funky” bass sounds, are normally decaying bass noises, ala bass guitar, etc.

I suspect your right danny.
I’ve done that before actually (splitting an electric bass sample) in a remix I did. It sounded cool but its doesn’t have the same feel as the bass in this track. Thats why I tried layering a synth sub under a bass sample, but I can’t get that to sound anywhere near as good as the bass on this track.
I’ve email the guy who did the remix about hows he made it, never know he might get back to me
Thanks tho guys, if anyone else has an idea of how I can recreate it (short of hiring a bass player!) Please let me know!
You might just get a touch, I’ve done that in the past and got feedback from some fairly successful people, just depends on the personality. I’ll have a look, see if i can recreate it in Logic.
That’d be great if you could, thanks mate! I spent ages trying to get in logic, i’d didn’t even get close haha!

I just got a (vague) answer for this from Tommy Boy (the remixer). He says he used ‘A Korg Plug In’. Hmmm, I reckon its either the ms-20 or the legacy cell. Shame I don’t have either :P, good to know its a synth tho not a sample.
