Funky Deep House

Hi guys,

firstly I would like to thank you for really great tutorials that helped me a lot to start producing! Mostly I found the info I was seeking. However, my passion is funky deep house music with live instruments like SAXOPHONE, BRASSES, STRING BASSES, PIANOS, GUITARS etc., but I find these playing not very nice in Ableton. Further, I would also be grateful for some tips or tutorial on making such kind of music as well as recommended free or commercial plugins. In my opinion, some users would appreciate few words on “jackin house music”.

Style: Funky Deep House (UK Nottingham)

Artists: Kinky Movement, Da Sunlounge, Inland Knights, Littlemen, Quadrant

Name of Tracks (+youtube links):

Kinky Movement - Feel the Beet

Thank you very much,

I got the answer to all your problems son.

Hire some musicians. You won’t get no realistic stuff in ableton mate. Just buzz, bleep, bish, bash, whoosh, waaaaah, wubba wubba ding dong. Trust me.

Contact the musicians union - i’m sure there will be plenty of out of work muso’s gagging to work with someone they’ve never heard of.

Thank you for your comment. I checked http://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/, but I am not sure if it’s the page you meant. Is there any way of cooperating with somebody who is as enthusiastic as I do and who will not charge money for that?

Andrew I have a feeling LDF was being ironic

nevertheless depending where you live, try going to a uni or local college and put up an ad for a funky bassist etc and form a band - I used to do it many years ago and can imagine its still the same

u can create your own funky bass lines or instruments like that … u just need to learn lots of Music Theory and scales to be able to build that funky old deep house sounds.

i myself love some deep house and i noticed that organic feeling is usually sampled or take from loops samples .

Bass plugins you can use like Native instruments Scarbee Bass series for Kontakt, also Virtual bassist is nice for this kind of sound.

Theres a plethora of sample cds available with loadsa funky loops and construction kits that you can have all sortsa fun with…

Google is your friend…

Here’s what I use:

Rhodes Piano - Lizard Lounge

Bass - Scarbee Jay Bass. I also put Rbass on this and pump it through a VST for a bit of Virbrato.

Guitar - Mainly I record this live, although I’m about to try Scarbee Funk Guitar

Piano - NI Piano

Synth Stuff - Sylenth

Saxlab is supposed to be good for Saxamaphones and the Nexus pack XP Dance Orchestra pack for strings

Hey Andrew, I wanted to wrote almost exactly the same thing

Thanks a lot to Sonic Academy!

Jacking Deep Funky House tutorial including good parts on different instrumentation and a good part on arrangement would be great.  I often ‘jam’ around 3m30s when producing tracks and I often prefer to start a new one lol !!

For basses I heard Sprectrasonics Trilian is really really good but didn’t try it yet.

I use samples for other ‘jazzy-world’ instruments.

Regards

Martin

I would love to see a tutorial of this kind in Cubase 6.
