Anyone taking their sounds out of their computer & routing it back in after being assaulted by a collection of dirty fx pedals & fkd’up amps?
Would love to know if anyone is & how you are doing it. What gear you are using & how you go about creating your sounds in this way?
I’ve been sending one shots through a 1980’s Marshal SolidState Amp - 30w. Results have been dirty & not too bad. Just have to find the right settings.
Also had a drumloop going through a really sh!tty distortion pedal & back into Logic. Crazy. But I’ll tell ya what. It sounded SO alive. The Sound from the Pedal was a bit unstable. Kinda unusable tbh. It was a Metal pedal… so I’d say it was a bit hyped. Besides, its a piece of sh!t quality wise. But it sounded like nothing else. It had lots of character or something… Just different. In a good way.
Someone told me to look out for Proco Rats - or a Electro Harmonix Big Muff (HaHA!), which are more Overdrive than anything else. Ibanez Tubescreamers are meant to be really good too. Point I think is to get something that has a “low noise floor”.
So will pick one of them up & see what happens. But would love to know if anyone is doing something similar / what your experience is.
Whats the hum or noise out of it like, when you dont have anything playing through it?
Then when you’re playing - Is it capable of subtle colouration, without getting out of control / ruining the whole thing?
I’m wary about investing in one Mate after using this piece o’sh!t pedal last night. It was really screaming.
I can totally see how people make industrial music
What was the Boss Pedal like for the “bad” noise Mate? See loads of them around - was 1.2 thinking of getting a cheap one to see what it was like. Any good?
slender (06/11/2010)
Once I have some hardware personally I will search ebay and just but any s h i t e pedals for under a tenner just for the crack
I was thinking that too Mate… but after using that one last night… its a bit of a one trick pony. What you want is something that can be subtle & fierce (if you need).
Problem with my cheap one anyway is that its just a bit too mental. Theres no space between 0 and 10.

thers is a filter on it which is pretty good so you can filter some of the noise (the noise is much better than the boss but its there) record it then eq it i suppose
its pretty mental but nice sounding if you know what i mean. the boss however was just messy. but there is how ever a boss overdrive pedal which maybe better
this gives you an idea what this bad boy sounds like

I had a quick read of this post last night and it got me thinking,
I have a pioneer efx 1000 that has not been used in over 2 years,
So I said feck it il send some sounds through it and back into ableton just to see what happens, all I can say is whoooo,
Even the slights effect gives the sound dept, warmth and width.
I think ye have hit On a pretty sweet idea here lads fair play.(I’m sure it’s prob common practice for pros but a novice like myself would have never taught of it)
I’m gonna have to wait till Monday when I’m off work to really test it out buT il get back to ye.
I was looking at some YT vids the other night of the 1000 & the cheaper one the 500 I think it was, cant remember. Sounded deadly.
I’ve got about €150 to spend… but I dont want to just buy a load of stuff that I wont use. Definitely having a think about it before I leap.
Also trying to get my hands on - literally… as in locate - and old 4 track that I had. Its in my parents shed somewhere. Want to see what the crappy old cassette will add to the sound of something. I know from experience that the 4 track really compresses & can sound a bit dirty & hissy - even buzzy.
They’re going 2nd hand for about €50. So might pick one up if its a fkd.
I’m studying for xmas exams at the moment - so dont really have a lot of time to mess around… but my ****ing God, have I got serious plans for pr!cking about when I’m free :hehe:
Enders (10/11/2010)
Love Boss pedals. and Digitech. The Wah pedal is great haha
Years ago, when I used to have the 4 track & playing in bands… I used to use the Wah as a filter on sounds going into the 4 track… like on a bit of keyboard or whatever. Used slowly, straight up or down, it was like a filter. Sounded cool.
Thought I still had a Crybaby in my parents place… but remembered that I gave it away. Bit hasty, seeing that I thought cos I was never gonna play the guitar in a band again, that I didnt need it anymore. Sh!t.
It can be used on guitars obviously… but theres a great fkn potential there for taking stuff out & back into the 'puter.
It can do both mono & stereo too… which is cool as most of the little preamps that I’ve been looking at are only 1 channel of mono.
Its got 2 valves in it. They get proper voltage from the unit - so is “real” tube.
Been looking at the cheaper Behringer MIC100 & ART Tube MP - both around €45. But they are meant to just have the Valve hooked up to the circuit board in order to “light it up”.
