ive been approached to write a theme tune to a game show… ive been offered a couple of grand to write it by the tv producers. now… will i get royalties from this if its aired…? PRS etc…?
now the kicker… its for the chinese market… whats the chances of me getting my prs (if im due any…) from the chinese government?
Wow that’s a difficult one - tell you what I’ll ask around and look it up on our systems at work - may take a couple of days
Though I do know in theory everything is run by the state. business are still liable for international law and contracts - for the simple reason being no one would trade with China if that was not the case
cool that sounds promising. another question (probably simple) am i selling my rights to the collection of this prs money by accepting the £2k fee from the producers…? or am i entitled to it anyway seeing as its me playing the instruments and its being played publicly…?
Your contract should answer those questions I would hope
Do remember the Chinese market is very very different from ours - a popular game show music could actually sell in its own right - this happens in Japan quite a lot for tv shows and anime titles

ive done the track and the lyrics. i cant upload it yet cos ive had to sign an NDA (non disclosure agreement) regarding what the shows about and what celebrity its centred around. but once its all singed (and paid for…) ill upload it… or even just show u the clip on youtube of it on tv out there… lol fingers crossed…
haha na man seriously i think he was all clean by 1980 cos his missus had buggered off and left him with his son so had to clean up for him lol. but… dont forget iggy pop wrote them lyrics in the 70s (77?)… and u know what a loon he is especially back then (before he went totally mental and started doing adverts for insurance companies… what a c***…)
was having a drink with the show producer today. the tv company in china really liked the music i did…
the producer says to me… well seeing as were paying you for the track you know you dont get any royalties on it if its aired… and chuckled… i said oh dunno about that… and laughed it off…
i thought i received royalties no matter if i sold the track to them… not publishing but performance royalties…? or am i way off? if i sold it to them then they get the performance (me playing the instruments) royalties too…??
