Gear Locations

Hi all,

I thought it would be interesting to find out where everyone goes to find great deals on the gear that they purchase. As we all know, producing has to be one of the most expensive hobbies and finding the best deals can be crutial to creating a track that is professional quality. Any tips on how to get gear cheap or links to great locations is much appreciated.

Tip: If you are currently a student (of any major, not specifically a music major) you can take advantage of products that offer educational pricing through www.sweetwater.com

All you need to do is get in contact with a rep, and they’ll ask you to send a copy of your ID and that’s it. I’ve also used this in conjunction with their 3 payment option instead of paying all of it upfront. This helps me grab the equipment I want and need right away.

I’ve already saved a couple hundred dollars this way. I purchased Ableton and Cubase at the student price which saved me a ton of money. Just keep an eye out for educational products on their site.

Hope this helps:)

+1 for education pricing

That’s great, but how about placing the actual link or providing the name. I might not be able to benifit from this, but others on here may.

I’ve purchased most of my hardware secondhand from eBay

Do you have any tips or tricks that you use to ensure you get the product for the price you want?

yeah, this only applies to hardware synths really.

first of all you need to search youtube and checkout want is making the sound that you want to buy. then head over to vintage synth explorer http://www.vintagesynth.com/ and read up on what they have to say. this is generally how i decide what i want to get my hands on. :w00t:

then with regards to ebay, you need to watch stuff, see what its selling for and know the cheapest price stuff is going at. say if i wanted a “little phatty” ill watch all of the second hand ones on ebay i get idea of prices then when i see one that is in great conidition with all the stuff it was sold with, i.e manual, power adaptor and a good seller etc ill bid my highest bid from the start. dont fk about bidding £10 here and there, just bid your maximum, what you can afford and happy to pay but not to high-that is key!!

then sit tight  if you win great youve got it at a good price, if you dont win then there will be another come along soon. ebay can become very addictive  its all to easy just to keep buying stuff, i know lol :hehe:

at the very least you want to be able to get your money back if you come to sell it later on
