just done my first overclock… got it from 3.2ghz to 3.8, currently at full stress test under amd overdrive for 4 hours and no errors not bad for a first shot and still only sitting at 46oC thanks to the custom cpu cooler i made!
Would love to get it up to 4ghz however, anyone know how? heres where I am with it:
not too shabby, temp is quite good too. if you can leave this running for 24 hours with no errors or sudden temperature jumps you’re onto a winner mate.
You should be able to do it pretty easily. What MOBO do you have?
Its funny that you posted this because I am in anticipation of getting my new gear in.
I bought an AMD phenom 2 x6 Black Edition

And
This ASUS MoBo

Supposedly it has overclocking controls directly in the BIOS.

I am going to Overclock the CPU to 4GHZ. so the total specs will be:
1 AMD Phenom X6 running at 4.0 GHZ

1TB Western Digital HD
500 GIG Western Digital HD
650 watt Power supply
2 EVGA 01G-P3-N959-TR GeForce 9500 GT Video Card - 1GB DDR2 running SLI
1 Focusrite Saphire Pro DSP sound Card
Dual 20inch Monitors
This thing is going to Screeeeeeeam. I can't wait. just bought the last pieces yesterday.
Asus crosshair formula iv - highly recomended!
i saw that, but I wanted an extra firewire port so I have an external & internal…
the crossfire says it only has 1 firewire port. plus its an extra 100 bucks.
I can see why its better, but I’m trying to build this thing for under 800.
I wasted money as a got a lower grad one when I done the build in feb - just upgraded recently. my advice would be get a cheap one now and upgrade when u have the cash, sell the old one.
I must say the motherboard makes a big differents to make the right choice.
I also just upgraded to a new case - the cooling is excellent when u add a couple o extra fans http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6674
My heat sink and fan where **** but I had 2 spare case fan at 2000rmp so I bolted them on the cpu heat sink and fan it push pull config - so now I have a cpu cooler with 3 fan working away! and what a cooler it is (now)
what brand did you go with originally…
i always try to stick to asus because they make the best mobos.
the m4pro seems like it gets great reviews all around.
