Help! Treating a "Bedroom Studio"

Hey guys, I’m getting ready to treat my bedroom studio and I wanted some input from some experience Sonic Academy’ers. I made a quick sketch of my set up along with some corresponding numbers.

A little about the studio.

I will be using Mackie MR8MkII’s, sitting on Auralex monitor pads. I will be producing house music, broad but you get the idea. The walls are all untextured drywall. The house is older and the walls have little insulation if any.

The corners #1, #3, #5.

The floor corners all have something in them, do you guys recommend putting bass traps in ceiling corners?

The window, #4

Do I treat the window? (I have blinds covering the window.)

The wall behind the monitors, #2

How far should the monitors be away from the wall? What kind of treatment should I use behind the monitors?

The wall across from the monitors, #6

Do I need some treatment here?

The closet #7

Right now I don’t have closet doors on. I’m thinking about leaving them off and using my hanging clothes as treatment? Thoughts?

The ceiling is 8ft, and has the popcorn texture. For a small bedroom studio, is treating the ceiling necessary?

Has anyone attempted to use the room eq wizard yet? Wouldn’t mind giving it a go, but its one daunting looking software! :w00t:

Haha! Yeah, with one leg hanging out the window! It told me that was the ideal listening position!

Yes I have used it. You can also find tutorials for REW on Youtube. Today I found this article http://www.realtraps.com/art_measuring.htm and I can see that Soundmagus also suggested that link. That article also covers how to interpret the graphs produced by Room EQ Wizard and what to look for.

I have spent today moving my mixing desk and furniture around to get better results and it has worked out great. In my old position there was a total lack of bass below 75 Hz, so something had to be done. I have just purchased new monitors so that also motivated me. You can see an old measurement in this thread: http://forums.sonicacademy.com/Topic74835-8-1.aspx

After moving my mixing desk I’m now getting a flatter response, nice and fairly even bass from 55 - 75 Hz, and a much more even decay time across the spectrum.

I can recommend putting on a low frequency sounds (like 55 Hz sine wave) and move around to get to know your space. This gave me a good idea where there could be problems with bass (which was my main problem). I got the best result using a symmetrical setup. This is also what the text book recommends, but I think it might be even more important in a room like mine due to my slated walls.
