W&W vs. Ben Gold - Break the Rules (Original Mix) - YouTube 58seconds
trying to make a bassline very similar to this having a bit of trouble getting a smooth distortion like this bassline and also my lower notes always seem to hit to loud where as in ben golds bassline its very smooth and quite and the top notes are the stand outs i have tried lowering the velocity all the way to the bottom for the lower notes but doesn’t seem to help maybe I missing something that they do any help would be appreciated as always
Thanks
Are you sure you have mapped the note velocity to volume? (if you are using sylenth1 for instance this isn’t always the case) Compression / limiting on the bass will help smooth out the differences in note volume and catch really transient parts. You could do this either on the bass in question or on all the basses as a group / bus.
Other than that it sounds like a fairly standard trance bassline: (1) low subby offbeat bass coming from either kick or synth (2) Layers of 16th note bass patterns which are EQ’d to their respective ranges, Generally I would keep the low / mid basses dry of fx (3) ping pong delay / chorus / w/e fancy effects you want on the high bassline (4) Gently compress them all together if needed (5) a bit of sidechain on the group, or maybe just the low bass.
W&W always has sick basslines imo, they are very well mixed and usually quite similar. You can tell they have put a lot of time into mixing it just right, and have had many years to refine its sound.
thanks for the reply mate i will be sure to keep the things you have said in mind and I have mapped the velocity in sylenth like you said must just all come down to the mixing and compression
