How do I watch the tutorials and use Live, simultaneously?

Yesterday I subscribed to the site, and am very impressed so far.

I’ve begun watching through many of the videos, and in order to watch the tutorials whilst using Live, I’ve simply switched back from my ASIO driver to the DX driver. Of course, the latency is high but I didn’t notice it to begin with. Then I added Alchemy Player and put a few notes in the piano roll. It simply cannot play these in time without the ASIO driver.

The video tutorials on this site are excellent, but I can’t learn much from them without working alongside them, pausing every few seconds. As such, I need a way of watching the videos whilst using Ableton with the ASIO driver, if such a thing is possible!

My system is an Alienware M17x R3, with whatever stock soundcard that thing comes with. It’s brand new, so whatever their latest offering is!

I hope someone can help suggest some way of fixing this, it’s driving me crazy!

Thank you

Never mind. Problem solved by using a USB headset for videos!

It should work when you have a decent soundcard. Most computers and laptops haven’t got a decent one standard on board.

For instance my Dell Latitude has a very basic one and it will either let the sounds of Ableton pass over my headphones. Video’s will be routed to the laptop speakers.

If you have an HDTV kicking around, set it up next to your computer and use it as an extra monitor. I always have the video playing on the tv and live running on my main monitor. You can also set audio to play out through the tv speakers if you are still having a problem with the audio
