What i mean is, if I have a vocal that is in G and i want to put it in D would i have to put D as the midi or would it consider C to be the actual root note of the vocal which is G? Sorry if i’m making this confusing haha.
yeah you would use transpose so that when you play C on the keyboard C is the note thats playing.
so if your vocal is in G you would transpose up +5 to get the rout note to be C then when you play D its a D.

ah i assumed so, that makes it much harder now lol ><
so when for example, i have patches in massive or nexus and such and they don’t have the keys labeled, and i put in D in the midi how do i know if that is actually D?

you can use that … it will only work on constant held notes so you would need to loop up the vocal to find the root.
