How do you use Properly a saturation Plug in when Mastering?

Hi there .

I wanted to know how u use saturation in your master channel before Mastering ?

I use this settings but i still dont get happy with the end results.

EQ>112 DB PREAMP >COMPRESSION> LIMITER

am i doing something wrong or should i put preamp after compression ?

You have to be carefull because if you overdo it you will get distortion. I reccomend the PSP vintage warmer, i think this is what most use on their master for volume and saturation. It also acts as a multiband limiter/compressor.

Aline what is that Pre-Amp? Is that what you are using to saturate? Typically, I have seen mixes where the master level is given about 10-12 dB of headroom, the limiter has been taken off, and the saturator is the last thing in the chain. This is, of course, ONLY after one is sure the saturator will not clip the master. The saturator is there to provide only a little bit of distortion and “harmonic excitement” anyway, so placing it AFTER the EQ and compression might be a good idea. That way you aren’t cutting or compressing the analog sound you’re probably going for.

The Vintage Warmer is a good suggestion, Jan. I have it, but one can overdo that in a big way too. Very touchy that plug is. Once I really learn that plug I might make a video. I don’t currently see one on YouTube explaining its use.

the 112db preamp is literally a mock up of variuos types of pre amp

i dont know if its a saturator as such

any stuff i have hed mastered by labels i was told to take all plugins off the master channel

is this stuff you are just mastering for yourself?

Indeed - we will shower you in orchid petals

that’s an interesting name for your bodily fluid mate.

You should always EQ after Compression. When you compress it alters certain frequencies depending on your settings. makes more sense to EQ after also because you shape the sound with the EQ.
