Most melodys I am coming up with (and the synths I am using)…have a more soft, melodic, feel good, joyus sound…
I am trying to create a grungy sound, a sound that hits so hard you feel like you need to shower after hearing it!
Certain sounds like Afrojack, Fedde Le Grand, Sander Van Doorn, Some SHM tracks, etc etc…

add some whitenoise as an OCS and Sausage fattner.
darker can be obtained through dissonant frequencies afterwards using proper effect chains on them. Operator is the most evil synth I’ve ever met for I can tell you . Try changing a pleasant operator lead into a dark one. It’s easy.
but i think darkness means something different for me.
what did u mean by a sausage fattner? 
Sasusage fattner is a saturation type plugin, really good for making things fatter like sausages do.
