I have never used it but Mixed in Key sounds like what you need

http://www.mixedinkey.com/

Then you too can look like Pete Tong :stuck_out_tongue:

play a synth over the track one note at a time going up and stop when it sounds right… thats the root note. then try playing that root note as a major chord. sound right? no, well then try it as a minor chord. sound right?

youll get the key from that.

hmm ok…thanks

that program is a little expensive :frowning:

it’s not that expensive compared to how much time it saves, here is free alternative

but either of those are 100% accurate, there are loads of videos on youtube on how to find a key of a song as well

There is no software that will give you accurate information on root note or key.  I’ve read a few articles were the accuracy of software like Mixed In Key (which is said to be one of the most accurate) was tested and out of 100 tracks it was only correct about 35% of the time.  Not very good IMO.

I think your best bet is too learn a little bit of theory and maybe a bit of ear training (to recognize chords, intervals, etc…) and go the route that jpgetty2win suggested.

It’s not the quickest most immediate solution but with practice it will serve you better in the long run.

Mixed in Key is usually around 60% for actual or compatible key, depending what you throw at it, good enough for DJing as a general guide

Try downloading the trial of Melodyne, that’ll allow you to analyse a vocal for its key. I remember downloading a trial copy of Uno (standalone version) and the limit on the trial was that you couldn’t save which works out fine if all you want to do is fine out the key!
