Hi there,
I’ve always been a bit confused on how to use samples. If I have a recorded sample, if I take it too far from its recorded pitch, I’m obviously going to mess with the quality of the sound. So if I have a sample pack that has a few synth sounds recorded in A for example, how can I use that to make a chord? Won’t I be messing with audio quality, or is there a way to do it do that I can play any note, but still have a quality sound?
Thanks!
John
Is it like a single hit note or is it a musical loop?
I tend to avoid using musical loops as they arnt very versatile and you will lose quality strentching and pitching etc.
If its just a single hit, you can put it in simpler and use it like a synth.
Going up in pitch introduces less artifacts as going down in pitch as you are effectivly increasing the sample rate.
Hi Phil, thanks for the reply!
Yes I’m talking about single stab hits. So basically, if I have a stab hit at A1, and I load it into simpler, and hit a note 3 or 4 octaves above the original A1 sample, I’m going to be hearing high quality sound, or is there a range I want to stay with in?
Thanks!
John
The sound will change as you move up and down in octaves. At higher pitches it will be shorter but running at high sample rate so will sound a bit clearer than at lower octaves.
Both can sound cool depending on what your looking for… Nothing wrong with a bit of grit!
Great, thanks for your help!
Any chance you can help me make this sound:

Its featured in a lot of Toolroom knights tracks. I’m using sylenth, and can almost get it, but can’t quite get the same bite they get. Any help would be great!
Cheers!
