How to follow the lessons?

Hi i’m trying to fallow the the tutorial on how to make electro house using Ableton. I’ve downloaded the files and resources but I can’t figure out how to use this resources to follow the lesson. Another thing do I need Sylenth 1 in order to complete the lesson? How do I use the samples that the instructor uses?

Have you ever used Live before? If you have not, I would suggest you watch the beginners tutorial on Ableton Live first. This will help you out and it will answer the questions you have.

also , go to sylenths website and download the demo version, you’ll be able to follow the tuts with it

Thanks Man!

Although Sylenth is great, you dont need it. You can do the same and more with Operator (if you have Live Suite). But, Sylenth is very easy to use, and that is where it rises above all the other soft synths.

Operator or Analog ?

Isn’t Operator a FM synth where Analog is… an analog synth like Sylenth ? :w00t:

It is, but it can be set to work as ‘analog’ subtractive synth, obviously is not as powerful in terms of filters, etc but that can be remedied in different ways and sometimes trying to overcome limitations can be more fun

Indeed…

I checked it out yesterday right after posting my last message and figured out Operator let you choose which waveform in a vast list of forms while Analog is only offering two oscillators and 3 waveforms + 1 noise.

Looks like Operator is a very nice instrument… but there are so many parameters i don’t really know where to start to learn it !:stuck_out_tongue:

its not that bad. There are bunch of tutorials on the internet. i would just do a search for some youtube videos. Its not that hard, but you just need to put your head down and turn knobs. For a subtractive synth you need to make the dots going horizontal, not vertical.

Thats the little squares in the bottom right hand corner of the picture. When they are vertical, in FM Synthesis, OSC D modulates OSC C, which modulates OSC B, which modulates OSC A. When they are horizontal each has its own separate output and it wont affect the other oscillators.

Thanks for the precious information, howie ! I guess I should start reading manuals, watching tutorials on the net and turning knobs instead of asking stupid questions everyday ! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve found this forum the most friendly forum ever! I have tried asking questions on other forums and been totally put off from making tunes because I have been made to feel like an idiot.

A big thanks to everyone on this forum for being so approachable!
