How to get that edgy synth sound?

Hi,

So over the past few months I’ve really ironed out my production skills, I’m able to construct a real pro-sounding track, and have already got one release! However, one thing I’m finding are my tracks are a bit … lacking, a bit dark, or maybe a bit uniform?

One thing I’ve noticed, in particular with Seb Leger, is a quirky, edgy synth can always brighten up a track, make it more fun, without over powering all the good, unique perc that you’ve worked on for days/weeks!

A good example:

Sebestian Leger - Les Frelons (Original Mix)

It’s a simple, staby synth, but sounds totally organic, almost raw… Really simple. I also love how the melody isn’t too complicated.

Any ideas how to get this kinda sound? I use sylenth, massive, and some other synths, but I’m willing to buy another synth at this stage to figure out how to make this.

can you point to a particular point in the track where the sound is happening. there are a lot of sounds!

Do love this track

Is it the stabby sound that comes in at around 2.32 but can hear clearly 2.45 - if it isn’t I wouls love to know :stuck_out_tongue:

That my friend isn’t much more than just a simple saw wave. Nothing more really.

Different parts he’s bringing up the release, adding small delay, and bringing up some reverb. Different things at different parts.

At about 2.35 it comes in and gets stronger from there…

It seems simple enough, but I can’t quite get sylenth to give me that sharpness… no matter how much I mess with the release… And I can’t get no where near that kinda tone. It’s almost string/mallet like…

try turning the attack/sustain/and release all the way down and put the decay about 3/4 up.
