"How to make disco loops in Ableton Live"

During the “bass” tutorial Phil loads a great sounding bass-instrument. Unfortunately this instrument doesn’t seem to be included in the zip file attached to the tutorial. Phil mentions something about “searching for it”, but i cant make out what he really means.br
br
Can anyone teach me how to put together an instrument like what was used in this absolutely great tutorial?br
br
Thank you! :)br

I think it’s just a bass guitar, right?br
br
Just track down some bass guitar samples, or look in your sampler and there will probably be a preset based on bass guitar samples?br
br
What DAW do you use? I’m sure Logic has a bass guitar present in the EXS sampler. And i know Reason comes with the ID8, which includes a bass guitar patch.br
br
Not sure about Ableton though?

Hey manbr
br
I dont think its simply a simpler with the bass wave on it. The sound Phil gets in the video is far superior to either of the waves played through a simpler.br
br
Is it put together as a macro (not sure this is the right term) with the different waves on separate chains?br
br
Im using Ableton by the way.br
br
Cheersbr

I do remember watching this video, although it was a while ago so can’t remember exactly what he does, and i’m at work so can’t watch the video again now.br
br
But i’m sure that from memory, he uses compression and some distortion to beef up the sound.br
br
Regardless of what he does for this particular sound, i think this is the kind of thing you need to do, if you want to great a great sounding bass guitar patch for a dance track.br
br
Try using compression and distortion, perhaps as part of parellel processing, to make the sound seem larger, and more aggressive.br
br
Simply adding something like Sausage Fattener into the chain will improve the sound no end.br
br
You could also add a synth sine wave for more sub an octave below the bass guitar for more beef.br
br
Also, you can EQ the bass guitar and add more bottom end, try boosting anything between about 50Hz up to 200Hz, to effectively add more bass.

The sound was just samples i recorded form by Bass guitar… thing there are like 6 notes or so sampled… they are all included in the .zipbr
br
Ableton just doesn’t know where they are so you have to link them up.br
br
there will be an orange bar at the bottom of ableton saying missing samples… double click on it and it will bring up a dialog to the right where you can show ableton where the samples are.
