How To Make Ambient Chill

View Course

This week, we welcome back Taylor Franklyn for a new ‘How To Make’ course as he creates an Ambient Chill track from start to finish.

With this style, it’s more about the melodic elements taking you on a journey and focusing on atmosphere and feeling rather than beats and rhythm. We begin with a time-stretched drone and laying down a simple chord progression along with a lush evolving pad and arps before adding some chilled drums, bass, and effects.

Packed full of sound design techniques using ANA 2 and Ableton stock plugins and utilising VELA for reverb duties, there’s a lot to digest over these ten videos that you can utilise in multiple genres going forward.

Sit back, relax, and check it out!

Can I take this course and get the same value out of it if I use a different DAW? (Bitwig in my case)

Hi there Robert,

While you won’t be able to load the Ableton Live Project for this course, it’s totally possible to follow along with the tutorial’s videos and to use your own plugins and software to recreate the track from scratch.

The ultimate goal is not to sound exactly the same as the tutor track in the end, but rather to get a good understanding of what components are used for this genre and how they are processed and arranged.

Furthermore, you’ll have access to the audio stems for this project, so you can drag & drop those audio files into Bitwig to have a reference track.

So yeah, it requires a bit more efforts but it’s actually very beneficial to reproduce a course’s track with your DAW and plugins :+1:

Any questions along the way, we’re here to help BTW
