How to Make Melodic House and Techno

View Course

Kicking off our Melodic House and Techno Takeover, we’re proud to welcome new tutor Julian van Straten AKA Bound to Divide, as he shares an epic course creating a new track - ‘Reflections’.

Using his track ‘Tears’ as a reference, we begin by breaking down and recreating a drum and instrumental loop idea that Julian has written before taking the track further with arranging out, changing up certain aspects and adding transitions so the track is constantly evolving, and keeping the listener interested. We finish by mixing the track and carrying out a basic master so the track can be played out.

Packed with pro advice, tips, tricks and sound design - this course is an epic insight into how a track can unfold from a loop to a fully completed masterpiece with easy-to-follow instructions as you take on this journey.

But that’s not all…

To celebrate this event, we’re hosting a brand new Remix Competition where you can use your newfound skills and make your very own version of this track with some incredible and exclusive prizes up for grabs!
Find out more by clicking on the ‘REMIX COMPETITION’ tab!

Competition ends 5th Nov 2024 - 23:59 PT

The juicyest tidbit of knowledge I got so far from this is the addition of a 10 ms lookahead on your sidechain compressor while advancing your sidechain trigger to it by the same amount to prevent clicks due to the rise time of the attack on the gain reduction from your sidechain compressor. I had been dying to know how to solve this problem for years without low passing full spectrum basses. I thought the problem was with the compressor when, in actuality, it was the way I was setting it up. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the musical aspects of the course(s) too, but this one technical aspect really was important and noticeable to me, audibly, and I am glad that Julian brought it up.
