This may be a silly question, but I am not sure how to go about remixing a song. How do you take certain layers and mute others, etc? what is the main way that people remix?
Thanks in advance
Usually when you get the chance to remix a song, the original artist will give you “stems” to the song. They are usually the important parts, like the bassline, vocals, leads, effects, and sometimes the drums. They are almost always in WAV form to chop up. Basically, you take those parts, whether it be all of them, or just one, or a couple (whatever), and make it into your own track. Its all about interpretation. Its like remaking a book into a movie. They take the parts they like the best, and put twists in it that they like best into something interesting.
Viola!!! Theres your remix!
Well put, exactly like a book to movie, my advice would be to ask for midi data files as well as the wav. files. this way you can have the option to change the bass line or any synths to your liking by use of a different plugins ect. That way if you wanted to get really technical you could change harmony’s ect while still maintaining the natural rhythm of the original track
