How To Sound Like Italo Disco

Yes, it may sound crazy, but I’m talking about how to sound like Italo Disco. I think it will cover a lot of topics that a lot of people desire on these boards including:

-“True” 80’s synth sound that we’ve requested many times, and many users covet

-A focus on that arping bass sound, and old school drum sounds

-Would be a fantastic look on recreating retro sounds, from synth leads, basses, stabs, chords, and little touches, to the big gated snare drums and toms of the old school drum kits. Would also provide some sick drum samples.

-Also, Italo Disco tends to be very melodic or spacey, which would be great exercises for music theory and use of different FX. Also, would be good for writing catchy melodies

-And yes, those arping disco bass sounds, made famous by Giorgio Moroder, would finally be uncovered and unearthed.

-Could also dive into vocoding here, since many Italo tracks utilized vocoding (especially on the spacier side of things). Those Italo tracks that didn’t have talented singers, usually utilized vocoding.

These are just a multitude of techniques an Italo Disco tutorial would teach that would be valuable to many, many members of this board.

Loooooove Italo Disco.

+1 here.

man i remember requesting for an italo disco at the beginning of the year :frowning: never really got its attention though. hopefully this time around we will be heard!

viva italo and spacesynth! lol

Just take any of the standard lead sounds from the vanguard or nexus and don’t do any further processing or layering with them. All your italo and classic dance sounds right there.

would love to actually, keen as mustard

The Vanguard sounds waaaay too thin and doesn’t really capture the magic of those 80’s hardware beasts. Comparing two oscillator sound on my Juno 106 vs some of these softsynths is just laughable.

Although I haven’t tried Nexus…

Yes, exactly. This is really what I was getting at, but wasn’t sure if these artists had enough movement to really get a lot supporters to get a tutorial made. The Valerie crew and their imitators.
