HTM Complextro - Chord Analysis

Hello!br
br
So, I have been going through this course and having a blast with it. I think it might be my favorite course yet.br
br
One thing I wanted to do was attempt to make it a bit more my own. One place was the high arp. I decided to try and expand on the arp, maybe follow the chord changes a bit. in order to do that, i decided to try and figure out what key the song was in. i suppose it would have been easier to just ask Chris, but where is the fun in that. ;-)br
br
the chords are aflat sus2, F minor, E Major, F# Major.br
br
First thing I noticed is if we are assuming a key of A flat we have a challenge. Since the chord is a sus2 chord there is no 3 in order to provide us better context. in other words, we have no idea if this is a major or minor key. so, let’s take a look at the a flat scale.br
br
a scale would look like…br
br
1 2 (b)3 4 5 (b)6 (b)7 1 (the parantheses represent what would be a minor scale)br
br
an A flat major scale would be …br
br
A flat B flat C D flat E flat F Gbr
br
an A flat minor scale would be…br
br
A Flat B Flat C flat E flat F flat and G flatbr
br
Another piece of info we know is in a major scale, the chords 1 4 and 5 are major, and the 2, 3 and 6 are minor. In a minor scale the 1 4 and 5 are minor and the 3, 6, and 7 are major.br
br
ok, given all that the big thing i noticed is the E major and the F# major. We could rewrite those as F flat and G flat. That is a big deal. We know that the F flat and G flat are the 6 and 7 from the A flat minor scale. So, we have a song in A flat minor, correct? not so fast. We still have this F which is the 6 from the A flat major scale. I could have tried digging more to see if I could figure out some kinda weird mode or whatever but I decided I had enough information. In the end, it was pretty clear that if i built my arpeggio off of the A flat major when the A flat major and the F were being played and then over the E(F flat) and F#(G flat) I played an A flat minor arpeggio it should come out pretty well. Sure enough, it sounded great.br
br
Anyway, I have no idea if this is useful to anybody but I figured I would share.br

I remember when chris was putting the tarck together we where messing around with the sus2 chord making it major and minor… i think in one instance it was minor n the verses and major in the chorus.br
br
they certainly arent regular chords which i think ads a bit of interest.br
