the tut I was waiting for is on logic …big deception …but it’s normal that logic users have their tuts too …
will there be the same on ableton?
if the demand is there then yes we will definately look at moving it over to ableton!
bry
well the basics are pretty much the same even tho is another program
right… Hey Bry, is this a transition Sonic Academy is going to start to make? I was just curious about it. I know that SA is listed as training centers for Ableton on their website. I say stick with Ableton and if someone wants to see specific details in FL, Cubase, or Logic, make a “Quick Tip” detailing that specific thing in their specific DAW.
howie,
while we do have a lot of ableton users on the site, that is down to the fact that a lot of our early videos were in ableton.
we still have a lot of users out there with different DAW’s and a lot of people willing to learn other DAW’s - whether it be cubase / logic / FL / Reason etc. we can’t ignore that.
we are looking to expand at the minute and with extra hands on deck there is no reason why we can’t quickly port over our more popular courses to other DAW’s.
as once said… you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time!
Yeah - would love to see this course on Ableton if possible. I used to have Logic but sold it as I found I wasn’t using it much. Of course, once I sold it, tutorials started coming out about how to use it…sod’s law! Nevermind. Anyway - it would be great if the DNB tutorial was ported over to Ableton. I’ve been waiting for this one for a while!
Cubase, ableton, logic, fl, dance ejay, why’s it matter???
if you know the software you’re working in its all the same, just need to know what buttons to push.
besides which if they show you how to do these things and a different daw and using different synths than you have, it makes you think out side the box!!! you then start to think about what you are doing, instead of just copying.

Piper down over there Jon!!!
I wasn’t complaining, I was merely pointing out facts. Besides, I have Logic and I can convert over to Ableton. I know Ableton well enough to transpose. Besides, its the theories, not what its done in.
I’d love to learn Logic Pro but the snobs over at Apple haven’t made it for PC since Logic 5 or something, way back in the Cretaceous Era.
And being under employed at the moment I don’t have the Apple bucks to get a mac plus Logic Pro, plus all the mac-based vst’s for it.
To me it would make sense to use DAW’s compatible for both platforms, though I do agree that using one kind of DAW isn’t absolutely necessary for a person to learn the mechanics of music production. Everyone should be ableton…I mean able to learn from any DAW…especially Ableton.
Good night

“Ableton!”
although i use ableton and would prefer to see the htsl vids in done in ableton i dont really see a problem like jon said it encourages people to think outside the box rather than just copying which can only help devolp your skills in my opionion…
how about a tech tip to acompany the htsl using sylenth seen as a lot of people have bought it to follow the tutorials already???
and list the daw thats intended to be used for each htsl on the schedule so no one gets a nasty surprise lol
No big shakes that this one wasn’t sorted for Ableton.
To be honest there was nothing in the tutorial intro that inspired me to
want to create what sounds to me like a very lightweight drum and bass track
with little or no character of its own.
Sorry but the standard just took a dive imo.
Thank you so much for making this in logic!
I am still learning the ropes of Logic, and this tut is just what I need. Awesome!
come on people you can just apply these techniques in ableton
i dont think it really matters what software is used, you should be able to applyall the techniques in the daw of your choice
not the best tutorial on SA got to say i’ve flicked through the first couple of videos and watched the intro and i have t agree with krome, i was kinda expecting something a bit more aggressive. from the drum and bass that i’ve been listening to in the last few days the style in the tutorial was very middle of the road and sounded dated.

+1!
Regarding Logic, as being the only major DAW that is not crossplatform, I think it shouldn’t be used in the big tutorials. I speak with an open mind since I used Logic (5!) until recently on my PC and just crossgraded to Cubase/Ableton.
Yeah I have to agree as well concerning the quality of the tut.
It serves as a great introduction to drum and bass and if you’ve never attempted to make a track before, but I definitely think there should be a How To Sound Like High Contrast or some other big name in the DnB community. Something in more detail.
When I saw the intro and saw how many channels were in use on Logic and how many parts there were to the tutorial (and what they were titled…how many tutorial parts do you need for drums?) I had my doubts.
Still, a great first effort, though I think with 500 cc’s of High Contrast the patient will be feeling better soon.
Anyway, my 2 cents (or p).
+1 on keeping with ableton
well, does not matter which software, it would be better if the track presented would sound like from this century:)
in my opinion the tut is great … after having "digged " (not sure of the word) it I can say it’s clearly well done…
